A customer (reportedly) has a lot of blocks in their RS3 system which
have been disabled (not sure of the terminology). Is there a way to
see this information in the offline control studio database? If not,
is there an way to get a report from the running system?

Thanks,

Aaron:

Disabled blocks? Sounds like blocks configured, but either without
connection to each other, or IO terminations.
The RS3 system itself doesn't report these conditions, but if you have
access to the offline RS3 application called Control Studio for RS3,
it has a built-in feature called "validation", which reports such
errors as an open links.

An RS3 system with a RNI (Ethernet) allows RS3 plant configurations to
be transferred by FTP to such an offline application. If the system
doesn't have an RNI, an RS3 backup tape can be sent to a service
provider with RS3 equipment capable of reading the tape, transferring
it to the application, and providing a report of errors, documenting
the configuration in graphical format, Excel, etc.

Our office offers such services if interested.

Tom -

We've got the .CSC file so we can check the validation report, thanks.
So is there no block mode or similar that prevents its execution?

Thanks,

Aaron

IO and Control Blocks have mode status (Local, Auto, Manual, etc), but
that dynamic data won't come thru the CSC file. An IO block can be
configured to always be in Auto Mode, and that will show up in Control
Studio as AutoLock text property.

On the live RS3, you can call up the BLOCK Status screen (Command
Line: CBS (enter).

The Block Status screen displays the configured ControlBlocks and I/O
blocks that are in modes other than Auto or that are in alarm. This
screen is for display only; you cannot make entries from it.

Does this help?

Tom,

That explanation is perfect. Thanks a bunch for the help. I knew
about the Autolock property, but I think some are more diligent than
others at using it.
