Minutes of 301st Senate meeting

I send this mail for the knowledge of all students, you may forward to your appropriate group of hall/department etc.

These are the excerpts of the 301st senate meeting taken by me. Please note it may differ slightly from the official version of the institute. Please refer to item nos in the agenda attached.

• The institute is opening an extension centre in Raipur which will have refresher and part time courses for college teachers, PWD engineers, Power plant engineers etc. Objection was raised by a professor stating that the student standard is very low since they do not come through GATE. (I personally feel that the entrance exam is not as popular or as publicized as GATE that creates a lower competetion) [Ref 301.C.I.C.1]

• There is no formal registration procedure for MS program as it is there in PhD. The ERP system erroneously shows first seminar as registration procedure. [Ref 301.F.I.C.3]

• In case of change of status of assistantship from project to institute a student friendly move has been taken. However it restricts all fellowship upto 4 years. When I put the case that holders of B.Tech, M.Sc, M.A., M.Com degrees get fellowship of 5 years (in both institute and CSIR) the director has denied that (Currently I don't see that in my website but it was given in my PhD Brochure) [Ref 301.F.I.C.5]

• Proposal for change of supervisor accepted for Randhir Singh. In this case his supervisor had given comments every semester that progress is satisfactory, but declared that he had made no progress faced with the application for change in supervisor. So the director wanted that before obtaining one line comment during semester registration every scholar whose registration seminar is over should submit a report and get it signed by all members of the DSC. In this view I requested an uniform procedure of supervisor allotment where student will explicitly indicate the choise of supervisor. This suggestion was not accepted.[Ref 301.F.I.C.7]

• Qualifying criteria for joint MTech-PhD programme was discussed. In this view the formation of an equivalence committee was suggested (to see the equivalence of BTec, AMIE etc).[Ref 301.G.I.C.1]

• If a research scholar absent without 15 days from the institute his/her name can be struck off. [Ref reporting matter: part II. In that case a scholar of RGSOIPL who is absent without any information for 4 months, her name was struck off. Usually a students name is struck off when semester registration is not done for three consecutive semesters]
