Hi All,

I was wondering whether I can select a different local snapshot directory other than the default ~/.checkpoint/.

I find the ~/.checkpoint/DATE structure to be very useful mainly because it avoids creating a package directory for every project. BUT pointing to a different path other than the default one is useful for a variety of reasons. In my case I'm using R from a portable USB pendrive but ~/. is poiting to the usual Document folder in the local C drive which is creating duplicates when I plug my pen into different computers rather than having a unique ~/.checkpoint/DATE directory on my portable pen.

Thanks for any hints,
Paolo

Hi Paolo,

Yes, you absolutely can. I believe you'll find all the information you need here: http://mran.revolutionanalytics.com/faq/#change-repos
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Regards,
Josée

Hi Josée,

thanks for your response.
Unfortunately your link is referring to changing the default snapshot DATE rather than the default snapshot FOLDER.
The default behaviour is to have all the packages being installed in their relevant snapshot under the ~/.checkpoint/ folder...I need to have them into another folder/path. I hope it make it clearer.

Hi Paolo,

There's currently no way to change the local library folder (where packages get installed) from ~/.checkpoint/DATE but we'll add a feature request -- it's a good suggestion.

Cheers,
# David

I am working on this in the next few hours.

Please join the discussion at https://github.com/RevolutionAnalytics/checkpoint/issues/167 to influence the design.

With some luck, we'll have this ready on github today.

Andrie
