Hi,

on very few machines, Maya 2017.20 crashes straight on load.
If I do Mayabatch.exe on the command line on that box, I do no get a crash.
In the GUI, Maya seems fine.
Only on the farm do I get this bellow. I checked for the "missing" Synclolor xmls and they do exist.

 >"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2017\bin\mayabatch.exe" -command "source \"//aka03/in_progress/AKA_ASSETS/100_RRender_V7/render_apps/scripts/kso_maya.mel\"; rrStartWrapper(\"//aka03/in_progress/AKA_ASSETS/100_RRender_V7/render_apps/scripts\", \" PyModPath: //aka03/in_progress/AKA_ASSETS/100_RRender_V7/render_apps/scripts, Renderer: arnold, SName: C:/RR_localdata/cachedscenes/projects_TALL_TREES/TEASER/2549217/WATERFALL/Houses_WaterFall_019_DG.ma, Db: //aka03.studioaka.local/projects/TALL_TREES/TEASER/04_CGI/04_SANDBOX/Daniel/Houses/, Layer: E_B_FOAM, Camera: camera_B_SH110, FDir: C:/RR_localdata/renderout/A/04_SANDBOX/Daniel/Houses/images , FNameNoVar: E_B_FOAM/E_B_FOAM. , FName: <Layer>/<Layer> , FPadding: 1, FExt: .exr, FrStart: 456, FrEnd: 458, FrStep: 1 , FrOffset: 0 , RenderDemo: True, Threads: 8, Verbose: 0, KSOMode: true, KSOPort: 7774, \") "

Hi

The difference between RR and a manual start is the folder for the
user/app preferences.
RR uses the local folder C:/RR_localdata/renderer_prefs/maya/win_x64/2017.
RR creates that folder and copies all content of the source folder
[RR]\render_apps\renderer_prefs\maya\win_x64\2017 into the local copy.
All other files are then generated by Maya.

I have checked the file synColorConfig.xml on our farm. In our case
the file was generated automatically. But the path in this file is
C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2017/synColor and yours is
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Synergy\SynColor\2017.

Do you have a file synColorConfig.xml in the RR source folder?
If you have a synColorConfig.xml file in the source folder, please remove it.

No matter if this was the case, delete the folder
C:/RR_localdata/renderer_prefs/maya/win_x64/2017.
Then the prefs are re-generated from scratch.

Holger Schönberger

I have deleted C:/RR_localdata/renderer_prefs/maya/win_x64/2017.
The prefs were recreated automatically on launch but Maya still crashes the same way.

I attach 3 grabs of the different folders in question.

Cheers,
F.

I am sorry, but I do not have any further idea.

Does it still state the wrong path to synColor in the render log?
Please try to edit the local syncolorconfix.xml and change the path from

C:/ProgramData/Autodesk/Synergy/SynColor/2017
to
C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2017/synColor

Or do you have some standalone installation of SynColor and the path is right?
But no matter if you have it, please try to change the folder

Holger Schönberger

Your answer made me look closer at the content of syncolorconfig.xml.
On a box that works, it includes this line : <TransformsHome dir="C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2017/synColor" />
On a box that is crashing, this line is completely missing.
Maya now renders fine.
On the bad box, this xml was regenerated automatically yesterday by Maya, so it is still very mysterious why this line can sometimes be missing from this file.

Thanks for the help.
Cheers,
F.

FYI, you can fix it for all clients by replacing a file:
