It seams houdini indie does not support arnold output drivers, but sidefx says indie should handle third-party renderers.
FYI, it works with mantra.

The error message is
"Please note that Houdini Apprentice and Houdini Indie do not support
third party renderers and thus cannot run HtoA."

You should not even be able to render within Houdini (without RR).
If it does not work without RR, then rendering via RR does not work as well.
