anyone updated to latest redshift build (maya/houdini)
they've changed the default install directory, wondered if you modified your own farm setup as far as render exe locations etc?

Hi

Note:
We have not yet updated Maya/Houdini with the new Redshift (C4D was tested with the new version).
If you do   not   use the Network Installation for Redshift in RR,

then you need some new setenv files.

we do use the network installation i believe (where RR checks to see if the correct version is on each node and then copies it from the server if missing?)
however it will need to copy it to the NEW location ?
i'll give it a swing over the weekend and see what happens i guess

Hi

If you use the network installation, then you either extract and copy the “zero-install zip package” or copy a local installation

into the RR folder. You do not copy it onto each machine.
A  local installation is not used and not required for RR.

The local installation is only required on your workstation.
That you can use it in your scenes.

i understand, all the render clients are also used as workstations so need the local install
however i was worried that RR is copying the zero install to the client into the 'old' path for redshift
if the client has redshift installed to the 'new' path, won't we need RR to check the new path?

not sure i'm explaining it very clearly...
if RR starts a maya batch render, does maya not expect the rs install to be in the new location? in which case i need to tell RR to copy to that new location rather than user data where it used to be?

Hi

RR never overwrites any local installation.
Otherwise it would not be possible to use different versions.
And it would break any project the local artist is working on.

You should see something like this in your render logs (but for Redshift instead of MtoA)
It states the folder that RR uses for Redshift:

Maya does not expect any fixed folder name.
RR sets Maya and Redshift env variables to this folder.

ok i see... thought there might be a need to copy to the 'default' installation path for RS... but as you say, that would overwrite the artists copy

good stuff, will upgrade then!
