Hi,
Since RoyalRender v10 is in the works. I would like to ask for 3 requests for things that bug me every day.
#1: Better support for dark theme. Currently, collapsed projects are unreadable with a dark green text on a dark gray background.

#2: Proportional exclusive priority. We have a lot of clients that are in working hours during the day so the number of available clients vary a lot between day and night. We currently use divisions to set the level 1 exclusive priority between different categories of projects, but we would really like to use a percentage of the clients available. Division A has 25%, Division B has 12%... This way, we could use divisions and projects in the level 1 priority list more flexibly.
#3: Ability to select frames/batch-of-frames and trigger actions on them. It happens pretty often that we need to re-render just a few frames after updating the scene. Also the current log files list (the only place where we can see what is going on with the frames of a job) is hard to read. The date, the frame and the client are all crammed in a line, and we only see the first frame of the batch. I wish it were a table view like the jobs.
Thanks!

Hi
1)
No Problem, the colors will be changed.
I thought there had already been adjustments to the colors, but it seems it was not tested well.
2)
I would place such proportional setting as a replacement/adjustment for the client averaging.
Day-to-day work. The exclusive should be used for urgent projects.
We need to think about that.
I have directly one question/problem in mind as you say “projects and divisions”.
Such a proportional setting would probably be for “projects OR divisions”.
Or “projects, then division” (Like the average level A and B at the moment)
Because lets try to use ProjectXY to 30% and DivisionA to 20% in one setting.
Now imagine ProjectXY has send DivisionA jobs only and it already rendering.
Then all other projects sending DivisionA jobs will not get any share of clients.
But that is just a first thought, it might be possible to use “divisions and projects” in one setting.
3) About the re-render:
You can open rrViewer via rrControl and delete the frames with the issue.
Then rrViewer will ask you if the rrServer should check for missing frames afterwards.
(Or you use any app to delete the frames and use the check button in rrControl yourself)
About a command based on selected frames:
I could imagine that you can select frames in the “Frame Log” and execute python scripts on them.
4) Log file list.
It should be possible to show the whole range of frames send to a client e.g. “1-100+20“.
But not for all jobs. If the job has the option Keep Scene Open, then the list would be way too long to display.
As the log file is reused for the next segment send to a client.
>I wish it were a table view like the job
Can you try the Frame Log or Frame Table?
There you can see all frames, sort by machine and open the render log with a click in a separate window.

2) We have a submit script that sets the division based on the project. Projects submitted from 3rd year students projects are set as "3rdyear" division, and projects submitted from 2nd year students are set as "2ndyear" division. Then we set the top level priority to use 3/4 of the clients for 3rdyear and 1/4 for 2ndyear. This works wonderfully well! When the farm is full of projects, all the 3rd year projects are split equally in their large part of the farm and all the 2nd year projects are split equally in their small part of the farm. If a single 2nd year project is running, it gets the entire 1/4 of the farm it has available. During the day, when many clients are in working hours, the total number of clients is lower and the number of clients available for 3rd year projects is lower. This year, it's not a big problem because all the teams are roughly the same size. But some years, the teams are very different in size, and we would like to allocate twice as many clients to a project than others.
Ideally, we would set a proportion for the divisions (75%, 25%) and a proportion for projects within a division (10%, 15%, 25%, 15%, 15%, 20%) that would always be updated to the number of clients available to render.
4) right, I forgot about the Frame Log and Frame Table. But I just tried them and remembered why I don't use them. They cannot show the log of currently rendering frames. I always get a message "Unable to find client render log". Also, it would be very helpful if the Frame Log could display the current elapsed time for a frame. Currently it just says "..rendering..".
Thanks!

Hi
2) ok, then we can reuse the current 2-level averaging.
The first average is handling the division, but with percentages.
And the second is averaging equally between projects.
Note about the first division distribution:
After some thoughts we probably cannot use a fixed percentage.
What if a job with a new/no division is submitted to the farm? (perhaps if you need to create some example animation yourself)
Then there is no percentage left.
A ratio works:
3rdyear: Ratio 3
2ndyear: Ratio 1
Any other: Ratio 1
Example cases:
3rdyear and 2ndyear: 3:1 => 75%:25%
3rdyear, 2ndyear, faculty: 3:1:1 => 60%:20%:20%
Same for the second “averaging” level.
You have 5x 3rd year projects on the farm.
And then a new is added.
Yes, you can manually open rrConfig and re-calculate all percentages, but with a default ratio of 1 you handle all new projects.
This way you only have to modify special projects that are allowed to use more/less clients that others.
4) Ok, two changes missing:
- current log
- current progress

Hi,
Yeah using ratios is fine. I just wish to set the ratios for both level 1 and 2 in our case.
Thanks!
