Can anyone tell me how to generate a sequence of .ass files via command line using CINEMA 4D and C4DtoA?

Thanks,

Alan.

Hi

In Cinema4D, the .ass export is not a render setting. Therefore you cannot use the render commandline.
I have read that it is possible to create custom commands for Cineam4D, but I do not have more information right now.
There is a dev ticket to create more commands for Cinema4D to be able to control it better, but it has lower priority.

And you cannot use Cinema4D to execute scripts via commandline. We had requested that from Maxon a few years ago, but there was no interest in it. Or they have not seen any priority as Cinema4D is not used in that many automated pipelines.

So to clarify, if we have an artist working in CINEMA 4D with C4DtoA, there is no method that you know of to generate a sequence of .ass files that I can then feed to Standalone Arnold to render. Correct? This means we could not use Arnold on a Linux farm to render the C4DtoA job. Am I right?

Thanks,

Alan.

The commandline option of Cinema4D are very limited and you can only start a render.
And an .ass export is not a render in C4D as far as I know.

There are 3 solutions to the issue:
1) Solidangle creates a render option like they have for MtoA:  A checkbox "do not render, export ass".
Then the default render commandline can be used.

2)  MAXON adds a commandline flag to allow everyone to execute python scripts.

3) As I said I have read somewhere that you can define your own flags for the commandline.
Our schedule is to take a look at it and fix 2) until end of the year. Then RR can use a way more advanced render script to control everything that can be scripted in Cinema4D.

From SolidAngle:

c:\Program Files\MAXON\CINEMA 4D R16\CINEMA 4D.exe -nogui -arnoldAssExport "scene=c:\path\to\myscene.c4d;filename=c:\path\to\myscene.ass;startFrame=10;endFrame=20" > export.log 2>&1

Ok, sorry, I did not know that Solidangle has already extended the commandline flags of C4D
