Royal Render doesnt recognize Arnold Render Licences for Maya 2017 or 2016 anymore

Hello, 

We just updated Maya from version 2016 to 2017. We currently have 2 floating licences  and 8 node locked licenses for our Render farm all for Arnold.
Those worked fine with Royal render  before the upgrade to Maya 2017. 
After I updated Maya to 2017 RR doesnt seem to use those licenses   anymore, also if I try to render in Maya 2016 those licenses fail. 

How do I reinstall the Arnold licenses for Royal Render. I already tried to copy the node locked licenses to RR\render_apps\renderer_exe\arnold\win_x64\Arnold-4.2 , but that doesnt seem to do anything?

rrS-Watch just says this: "Render licenses for Maya arnold v0, total 10. Reduced by 1 for the next hour. In use: 0, blocked 10"

We are still using RR v7 .0.38

Hi

If RR blocks a license, then a render app has returned that there are
no more licenses at the moment. You have to check the error list of
your Arnold jobs for license errors.
And then open the log file of that client with the error.

What error message does Arnold print about the license?
And please check the Arnold License server for the license usage via
the webbrowser.

There is no way to "re-install" Arnold licenses in RR. RR does only
count the used and blocked ones.

hi, 

for some reason I dont know where to look for the log file with the error messages? Or do you mean the one from rrControl? 
Maybe it doesnt create one, since it doesnt even start to render?

And from that webpage Arnold only says, that no Licenses is in use

No Licenses in use for ISV solidangle for product [any], user [any], host [any]


those are only the 2 floating licenses, but also those dont seem to work or are in use at all

Yes, the error list in rrControl:

To check which machine is responsible for the blocked license count.
And then the log file of that machine to find the actual error message
of Arnold.

Ok, in your case there is no further error message from Arnold why the
license checkout failed.

I do not know how to license node-locked Arnold licenses, but floating
require an environment variable solidangle_LICENSE.
Please check if this variable is set as system variable on the
machines that should use that license. And then restart the RR service
or the machine.

Then you should try to login with the same user as you use for the RR
service, start Maya and try to render with Arnold.
But you should use Maya 2016 for the test as Maya 2017 has an Arnold
UI-only license build in.

I think I got the 2 floating licenses to work now. :) 
I now did setup those environment variables, as you told me. So it now renders on two machines with Maya 2016 and 2017

I saw that there is also a setup of the environment variables for node locked licenses, if you use several Arnold versions


I tried to combine both variables, but at the moment only the floating licenses work properly. I guess I need to update those node locked licenses to floating ones, since the node locked dont seem to render. 
I will try some solutions with the locked license and see how it works, if it does at all. Maybe they changed something since the 2016 version and after the update to maya 2017 it doesnt work anymore. 

But thank you for pointing me in the right direction, with those environment variables. :)

Perhaps the 2017 installer has overwritten the variables.
As they forgot that someone would have had Arnold before 2017.
As it was just added.


For the node-locked licenses, I would only set a system wide variable
solidangle_LICENSE to the license file. Which should not be in your
user folder as your user does not render via RR.
Set the variable, remove the license file, test in Maya UI if it
renders with watermark.
Copy the license file, test again in Maya UI.
Restart the machine or rrService, test via RR.
