Hi, I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

The studio I work at has been on Arnold 3 with the RLM license server.
When we create jobs in RR we set the license variable

ie:
solidangle_LICENSE = 1111@LicServer-01

But now we have Arnold 5 licenses that require the flex NLM server.
I've tried setting the solidangle_LICENSE variable to no avail.
I've tried
solidangle_LICENSE
RLM_LICENSE
ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE
LM_LICENSE_FILE

Each time I get this error
`[rlm] could not checkout a license for "arnold 20210604",`

Is there another place I should be setting the license?

I have confirmed in the Arnold lic manager that the new server is indeed working correctly and has all the licenses installed

Thanks for your help

Hi

If you open/edit the file  RR\render_apps\_setenv\all\arnold__inhouse.rrEnv, then you can see that we have prepared the env vars with an information which env var is for which Arnold version.

For Arnold 5 it is ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE.

Note:

If you tried to set the env var via the systems env vars, I recommend to use the .rrEnv file instead.

Then it directly works without restarts

Important Notes:

First, the ADSK license system is named CLM sometimes.

Then the Autodesk license system has some …uhm… „smart feature“:

If you have not used any setup/installer to install Arnold or Maya with Arnold, then it does not work.

Because the ADSK license system does not grant Arnold a license until the you set a local setting on your machine that Arnold wants to use the ADSK license system….   ( WHY???? )

Anyway, please see this help page with the information how to test for all license server types and how to register Arnold into ADSK:

http://www.royalrender.de/help8/index.html?Arnold.html

regards,
Holger Schönberger

Thanks for the detailed explanation Holger.
What worked for us was setting ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE in render_apps\_setenv\all\houdini__inhouse.rrEnv to our new server and it worked like a charm!
Thanks for the help

>houdini__inhouse.rrEnv
Note: If you export .ass files instead of rendering Houdini Scenes directly (requires Houdini license), then you need to set it in the arnold__inhouse.rrEnv file as well.

Exporting .ass files with Houdini should not require an Arnold license at all.
