3ds Max VRay - Render Frozen and 1 Core only

hi,

one of our clients has stopped rendering like it used to have.

the client has 40 cores and is limited to 20 cores while a user is logged in.
everthing worked fine.

since two days, the client went through all the unfinished jobs and has frozen at all of them.
after it tried and freezed at every job, it says "idle".

when we try to reassign the client to one of the unfinished jobs, it says, that there is only one core used to render the frame but nothing happens.
it stops after a few stepd in the log file:

i uploaded a job log of an other job, that was rendered fine for 40% (3 or 4 days ago) of the frames by this client. then the client started to freeze at jobs.


what we tried so far:


- new local vray install

- new install of RR

- update RR to latest version

- reboot RR Server


the zipfile with the logfile and a screenshot is called frozenerror_0057.zip

VRay does not freeze during rendering, 3dsmax freezes after it has
rendered the last frame. It could be 3dsmax itself or any plugin that
you use in the scene or that you have installed.
It is known that 3dsmax does sometimes freeze on exit (even if you
start 3dsmax with an UI and you close it, you can still find the
process via the task manager).

I have logged a ticket to implement a workaround in RR to detect this
kind of freezes and kill 3dsmax earlier.


Right now you can only decrease the freeze detection time in rrConfig.
Then you do not loose 15 minutes every time the client gets a new
scene to render.

Does this have anything related like case in Maya, MAYA_RELEASE_PYTHON_GIL environment variables must be set.
If so, what is the similar environment variables for 3dsMax .

Hi

I do not know anything about an environment variable for 3dsmax.


Note: MAYA_RELEASE_PYTHON_GIL is deprecated. since Maya 2017. It is
true by default and can be overwritten by MAYA_RETAIN_PYTHON_GIL.
