Sending for Kyle...

Good afternoon and Happy New Year!

***Please read through this entire email***

We will be adjusting our January schedule to allow more time for each planned event and will NOT be meeting January 10th. Instead, our next study group gathering is Saturday January 17th 9:00-12:00. The shop will be open from 9-12:30.

For the study group, Tak and I will have materials prepared for mortise and tenon style tool trays to be made. Tool trays are a great way to stay organized, tidy, and a safe way to store or move tools around. Let's have some fun planning out our tool trays, sharpening, setting up tools, taking shavings, and tinkering on joinery if you are so inclined. Please bring any Japanese hand tools you might have, especially a block plane, along with sharpening and setup tools. Just ask if you are not sure what you might need or don't have some things, we may be able to help.

For anyone that does not have a block plane or other hand tools, we strongly suggest purchasing some for yourself, this plane from Suzuki tool in a 48mm width is recommended - it is a great plane to start with. Chisels, saws, sharpening stones, block planes, and whatnot can be purchased from Suzuki (https://suzukitool.com/tools/japanese-woodworking-tools) tools, Hida (https://hidatool.com/list/c/woodworking) tools, etc. Don't hesitate to ask if you are unsure of what to get.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

***LASTLY, PLEASE JOIN US***

Saturday January 24th 2-4pm, Tak and I will host our 2nd annual mochi party for participants and family of our woodworking study group. This family friendly mochi making event uses traditional wooden tools to pound rice into yummy sticky mochi! We will provide everything for making mochi(we move almost this fast, ha!) and toppings for snacking. If you would like to help with drinks, toppings, or appetizers please contact Tak or myself.
