Back in the day, it took many years before companies automatically accepted a faxed signature (facsimile) as an authentic signature.  Now we are in the throes of that discussion all over again with the advent of new technologies.  The question is really, ‘What method can we use to verify the signature is ours on an electronic document?’

Individuals can acquire a secure electronic signature for free from various companies.  Other companies charge a fee.  You may have seen a company called, “Verisign”.  It is a secure method for signing a document electronically.  Thankfully, not everyone automatically accepts something submitted electronically!

In the event an employer requires an electronic signature for an application process, then it would be great if we could offer that alternative.  I have never heard of an employee requiring a signature for an application.
