hi

I am trying to figure out how to change the default renderer for a particular software - or rather, more specifically, change the config that is used by default.

In this case, it is Houdini > Alembic-singlefile. The default is just Alembic (which does multifile) and I want the singlefile to be the default, only for Houdini, in rrSubmitter.

I've looked in the .rrEnv .cfg and .inc files and not been able to spot the answer.

Hope someone can help!

Hi Markel,

Our scene parser should switch to single output if there is no frame number in the output name. If you can send an empty houdini scene of yours that defaults to multifile, I will see why its output is not considered single

Ah, okay, so if there is a frame range it defaults to multi, but if there is no frame number it defaults to single. Got it.

In this case we are trying to write a single multipart exr. So what we need to do is ensure that subsequent writes are additive and not replacing the file.

Hi Mark

>multipart exr.

multipart .abc

>So what we need to do is ensure that subsequent writes are additive and not replacing the file.

Note:

If you submit such a job, then RR executes all frames on one machine in one go.

We have not investigated if it is possible to append data as it was not possible with other cache files.

If it is possible with a setting we have overseen, we can force that setting in RR.

Hi

This has come up again in a slightly different context

in rrSubmitter, we want to be able to set what the default renderer is for the software, and we're not clear on how to do that.

e.g.: I switch the Software param to Houdini, and I want the Renderer param to be "createAss_rez" or whatever I want as the default (not "--default--"). Or switch to Maya and have Arnold auto-selected.

The other less attractive possibility is to be able to change "--default--" to be whatever (i.e. act as "createAss_rez") but that will probably cause other issues because it will be unclear what is being selected (or not).

I hope that is a clear explanation

Cheers

Hi

For Maya:

It is not possible to submit a completely different renderer with our plugins.

You would have to modify the submission plugin and hardcode the renderer name.

For Houdini:

The rrSubmitter node has a setting „RR Renderer Name“.

You can either enter the complete name like "createAss_rez", but then you would have to set it separately for each renderer.

E.g. an Arnold ROP submits two jobs, a createAss and a Arnold_StA job.

OR you can modify the name:

If you enter „*_rez“ as renderer name, then _rez is appended to all jobs.

Which should fit your setup.
