I'm trying to use rpostgresql on Bitrig (and BSD operating system
originally based off of OpenBSD).

The config scripts included in rpostgresql do not recognize bitrig so the
install fails. You could update to the latest GNU autoconf (which does
recognize bitrig) or I have provided a patch to add bitrig to the current
config code that you have.

Let me know if you have any issues with the patch or would prefer something
different.
