RPostgreSQL error with PostgreSQL 'infinity' values in datetime data types

I'm trying to use RPostgreSQL to select from a table that uses the PostgreSQL 'infinity' keyword in some fields (documentation).  When attempting this, I get the following errors:

Error in charToDate(x) :
  character string is not in a standard unambiguous format


 Error in as.POSIXlt.character(x, tz, ...) :
  character string is not in a standard unambiguous format

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Should I submit an issue for this project?

Yes I've had exactly this issue and I do not know a way around it.

Please post if you found a fix in the end.

I submitted an issue for the project on google code here:

And implemented a fix on a branch of the here:

https://github.com/mikekaminsky/rpostgresql/commit/83335e6d0d0ac8c080a87040ffe4030e7447189f

Of course, this requires you to install the package locally, but it worked for me.
