Did the GitHub updates ever happen?

On the GitHub page there is a comment:

UPDATE 10/23/2017: Several significant updates are coming soon..

Did this ever happen? Looking at the GitHub site there doesn't seem to be any recent additions. Is there a fork with these updates?

Joe Hermann's project has had some successors in particular my yart project (see on github). The problem is that the whole software stack of the pi camera has just undergone a complete transformation based on libcamera. All projects based on the old Picamera python library are obsolete unless you stay with the old Raspian Buster version.
