We are having trouble using the advanced sleep log in situations where the child goes to sleep after midnight on one night and then falls asleep before bed the following night. We considered decreasing the date by 1 so it corresponds to the original date of the data, but if a nap also occurred on both of these days, then it creates problems with correctly mapping the naps with the right dates. We have tried entering the same date for D1 and D2 and this produces an error. Are there any solutions for this?”
This is the error we're encountering: "Error:  Participant 10002 P1 (2017-06-23) has duplicate dates in the diary, please fix 7/4/2017". Attached is a screeshot of the data entry.

Dear Jenny,

The documentation states that sleep onset times or time of going to bed after midnight should still be logged with the date of the calendar day on which the night started.

...So, the advanced sleep log is calendar date oriented: asking the participant when they woke up and when the fell asleep on a certain date. However, if the sleep onset time is at 2am, you should still fill in the 02:00:00, even though it is the 02:00:00 of the next calendar date.

This means that you should never have duplicated calendar dates in a sleep log.

If it is not clear from the documentation then I welcome suggestions on how this part of the documentation can be improved.
Thanks,
Vincent
