1. May Day Celebrations

2. Supreme Court Judgment on MGNREGA in Swaraj Abhiyan PIL
The much-awaited Supreme Court judgement delivered in the Swaraj Abhiyan PIL on 18 May has let down NREGA workers and their supporters. The Court has ignored the wealth of evidence against the brazen violations of the legal entitlements of NREGA workers and has allowed the Central Government to get away with a series fallacious interpretations of the employment guarantee act. The silver lining in the judgment is that the Court has instructed the government to ensure timely payment of wages and compensation in case of delays.

3. Opposition to Adivasi/Gram Vikas Samitis in Jharkhand
Jharkhand NREGA Watch has opposed the plans of Jharkhand government to amend the employment guarantee act to enable implementation of NREGA schemes through Adivasi/Gram Vikas Samitis. These Samitis are likely to be constituted by the cadres of the ruling party and undermine institutions of local democracy.

2. स्वराज अभियान जनहित याचिका में नरेगा पर सर्वोच्च न्यायालय का आदेश
18 माई को स्वराज अभियान द्वारा दायर जनहित याचिका में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय का आदेश नरेगा मज़दूरों और उनके समर्थकों के लिए बहुत निराशाजनक रहा. न्यायालय ने मज़दूरों के अधिकारों के लगातार उलंघन के साक्ष्यों को नज़रंदाज़ कर केन्द्र सरकार को आसानी से छोड़ दिया है. आदेश का केवल आशाजनक पहलु है – न्यायालय ने सरकार को समय पर मज़दूरी व मुआवज़े का भुगतान करने का निर्देश दिया.

3. आदीवासी/ग्राम विकास समितियों का प्रतिरोध
झारखंड नरेगा वॉच ने झारखंड सरकार के आदीवासी/ग्राम विकास समितियों द्वारा नरेगा योजनाओं के कार्यान्वयन करवाने की मंशा की निंदा की है. इन समितियों का गठन संभवतः भाजपा के कार्यकर्ताओं द्वारा होगा और वे स्थानीय लोकतंत्र को कमज़ोर करेंगी.
