Call for Dharna on NREGA

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is under attack. Its legal provisions are being violated with impunity and the Act is being implemented in a manner contrary to its spirit. Instead of building upon the Act to further realize the right to work, the government is shrinking workers’ entitlements.
Hundreds of NREGA workers and their supporters from across the country will gather in Delhi on 11-15 September 2017 to demand the unconditional realization of the right to 100 days of work, timely payments, increase in wage rates and expansion of existing entitlements. The dharna will also be an opportunity to learn more about the implementation of the employment guarantee act in different states and workers’ struggles for their entitlements. Protest for demanding immediate implementation of maternity entitlements as mandated by the National Food Security Act will also take place on one of the days.

राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण रोज़गार गारंटी कानून पर प्रहार हो रहे हैं. इसके कानूनी प्रावधानों का बेरहमी से हनन हो रहा है और इसे इसकी भावना के विपरीत चलाया जा रहा है. इस कानून को और व्यापक बनाने के बजाय सरकार मज़दूरों के अधिकारों को सिकोड़ रही है.
देश-भर से सैकड़ों नरेगा मज़दूर और उनके समर्थक 11-15 सितम्बर को दिल्ली में सालाना 100 दिन का काम, समय पर मज़दूरी, मज़दूरी दर में बढौतरी और अन्य अधिकार मांगेगे. यह धरना विभिन्न राज्यों में नरेगा के लिए हो रहे संघर्षों के बारे में सीखने का भी एक मौका होगा. राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा कानून के अनुसार मिलने वाले मातृत्व लाभ को अविलम्ब शुरू करने के लिए भी एक दिन प्रदर्श होगा.
