This Dictionary is a very important work in Ardhamagadhi. It was planned and executed on scientific lines by the Jain monk Shatavadhani Muniraja Ratnacandra in the early decades of the 20th century.
Ardhamagadhi is an important form of Prakrit, and is the principal language used in the Shvetambara canon.
The dictionary spans five languages, Ardhamagadhi, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Hindi and English. A number of quotations from standard works explain the exact connotation of the word and its standard usage.
The pronunciation is also given. In places, there are line drawings that explain certain Jain phenomena such as the Jain universe, etc.
This Dictionary was first published by the Shvetambara Sthanakavasi Jain Conference in 1928 and reprinted in 1988.
While this dictionary does not cover the entire spectrum gamut of Prakrits, restricting itself only to Ardhamagadhi Prakrit; students of
Prakrit philology, Jain philosophy, or the general history of Indian epistemological thought will find this dictionary to be highly useful.
Please note that this dictionary was published in 1988. The condition is very good, but the pages are yellowing.
