- the whole product freezes from time to time under Windows 10 (64-bit). It is really independent of the version of Windows 10. The effect is that it does not react on mouse clicks - I cannot open an app, switch from one folder to another or drag the whole windows around. At this time no other app anywhere on the desktop is affected with a similiar behavior. Also the start menu works. The freezing is typically after I just opened an app from ObjectDock.
Don't worry - no links to competitor products because they unfortunately do not exist directly. There are some nice "MacOS"-style start bars, but - in contrast to ObjectDock - no other product I'm aware of supports many icons on multi-pages on smallest room like I used it (see picture at my initial post on this website). I bought Fences as well - I use it for organizing frequently-used document-shortcut icons and I like it for this - but again there is not support for several stacked pages with icons inside.
I tried Fences and it's missing a lot of functionality ObjectDock has, plus it messes with your whole desktop, you have to resize your desktop icons to get them to change size in Fences, it pushes your desktop icons down when you have a Fence on the top, icons on Fences still have the shortcut icon in the bottom left, Fences can't reserve screen space and pop up on top of other windows like you can when rolling up / autohiding ObjectDock, you can't drag and drop to rearrange icons in fences (it sorts alphabetically), etc. There's a lot of reasons it's not a viable ObjectDock replacement.
They just censored my link to alternative software that works with windows 10, so I won't post the link again, but you can try removing all docklets (they may be causing the hangs. i disabled all advanced functionality in the settings as well and seem to be hanging less so far), but if you're still having issues, you can checkout winstep nexus until stardock decides it's worth it to support windows 10. I personally like the look and feel of objectdock better, so I'd rather have the bugs fixed than have to switch products.

Posting links to competitor software in the Stardock forums isn't something we encourage,
You know, I don't know what he linked to, but what would be wrong with linking to Nexus? We do have a Winstep/Nexus gallery here at WC, so I see no issue promoting the app that uses those skins. Just my opinion.....
I don't use any docklets. Maybe that's why I have zero trouble with the Tabbed Docks I use. There's no lag whatsoever. Mouse over, the tab comes down, click on the shortcut and Bang! In fact I'm using OD 1.90 Plus which is the older version. My OS is Win 10 and no problems with the docks.
I agree with RND' since OD doesn't work with 10 why not give a link to alternative app. Winstep skins are on this site and JC comes on here and reports an update to the app. You have Rainmeter skins on here, if someone asks what they are can't you put a link to that app?
Thanks, LightStar, I did try it, but for some reason, the weather dock on it doesn't like European weather. Didn't work at all. Anyway, I DO like ObjectDock just fine - the thread was to inform folks that there is no use writing more threads on the weather docklet - support for it has been withdrawn from both sides, so there is nothing to be done.
The built-in database of over 70,000+ cities worldwide is there only to help the user select his location (although the user's current location is normally automatically detected on first run based on GeoIP location, i.e.; based on the IP address of the user).
I read your responce but I am not sure I understand. Did you say that you lost the systray without updating? Since it sounds like a mess in there try uninstalling Object Dock then go check the directory to see if the files were totally removed. Restart your machine, then install through Impulse and not SDC. See if that works for you.
right. I had not updated. my systray dock was there one night and also the next morning, but when I restarted (I reboot about once a week) when all had restarted, my systray dock opened without systray, only minimum 'startmenu, config and objectdock exit icons. I am still unable to uninstall beta using impulse or vista prog uninstall prog. I could go in and delete all object dock files and folder, but am still getting used to vista ultimate, but not sure of interaction with other stardock progs I have installed. so I am still using as is.
found out there is a new update today (1.91k [a].27 but when try using impulse to update alway end up with this error message "Impulsed has encountered problem and neede to close". anybody have this problem? thx
I was able to get some info on the matter. The update got pushed back. There is a good deal of discussion on the matter from the higher ups on where to take Object Dock so it is getting full attention. Due to everything being up in the air this is all the information I have at this time (which is why you have not seen much from me on the subject, I don't like posting so little in news).
The moment I hear more, or something more solid I will be happy to update the community if the developers don't do it first.
Thank you for the update seabass. litte info is better than no info at all right? we are to long life in the dark already. no update, no info, nothing. like this objectdock is somehow just a garbage that been forgotten by the developer. Hope its really get full attention right now. long to see the the update. mewnwhile we still can live with the beta
Another application I like from Stardock is LogonStudioVista which allows to customize the Vista logon screen. There is also an XP version available. It has even caught the attention of Windows Vista team!
There is another tutorial out there I wrote, but that was for the previous version of ObjectDock so I figured now is a good time to get a new one up. ObjectDock 2 had a major overhaul in its user interface, and with that came a few new ways to do things that people might not be familiar with.
WinCustomize has an dedicated gallery for ObjectDock Backgrounds, and there are tons available to download. You can open your backgrounds folder from the theme configuration to install them, or automatically if they have a .dockzip extension.
Thank you, I did try your suggestion but I'm still having the same problem, the only thing that is showing up is a default folders. Could you tell me in the background folders there are three other folders, is there any particular folder that I should be putting the this download to? Unless there is a glitch in the program itself at this point I'm not sure.
Tried to find somewhere else to post feedback, but I can't find it! I have 3 copies of Start11 V2 and I have been loving the layout of the Professional Menu. I am still able to turn off the PC by right clicking the start menu button, or by clicking the power button in the start menu and using my keyboard to select power off, but it by default does not respond to mouse over at all. I have no idea why it would be doing this, but I hope the next update comes with a patch!
Pinnacle Studio 14 Importer crashes on Windows 7 x64, thus I'm unable to import videos from my camcorder. I've Googled around and it seems to be a problem with x64 support in the program, but there is no info if it can somehow be remedied with Compatibility settings, XP mode.
Recently my UTorrent will not connect correctly. On the bottom there is a red circle with an exclamation point. The error says, "A Firewall/Router is limiting your network traffic. You need to open up a port so others can connect to you."
get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, Ctrl+D (to show the lower DLL pane), select the µTorrent process from the list, Ctrl+S (and save the list somewhere you'll find easily -- like the Desktop), then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here
found this topic, after I create a separate one, and it looks like, there is actually some technical advice given here. Here the link from a separatep post, which describes the issue, very similar to this one:
Well, the KLite Codec Pack is just fluff, overkill... NOONE needs all those files. FFDShow is good enough for anything modern, and anyone who knows where to get media encoded in ancient formats, can get their respective decoder which works better than ffdshow. Or use a media player with them built in.
yes, I am aware of the good codec management practice. On my HTPC I dont have any of that. I prefer KMplayer, it handles most of the different codecs out there. This older machine is strictly for downloading, so there is bunch of stuff that I dont care for.
Stardock's first major Windows success was with WindowBlinds, an application originated by a partnership with developer Neil Banfield. There turned out to be a large market for skinnable products, and Stardock prospered, growing significantly in the following five years. The release of Windows XP stimulated sales in Stardock products, and despite growing competition proportional to the market the company remains in a strong position.
I use Start10, Groupy and Fence. Those are my preferred applications. I want to play with WindowsBlinds and Deskscapes more. On Wincustomizes there are some very cool skins / desktop animations I want to try.
I'am trying to convince my IT guys to buy me Groupy and Fence at work. I desperately need them :)
Modern Mix (not listed here) is a boon to folks running Windows 8/8.1 that want to stay on their desktop but occasionally have need for a Metro app.
Start8, like Start10, allows the use of a classic start menu. I've never understood why Microsoft is so adamant (given the popularity of Start10, Classic Shell, and other similar utilities) about NOT allowing the use of a classic start menu.
Remember, many themes were made at a time when tabs could not yet be centered in the application, but some themes (those where the body of the Shelf is a separate unit from the tabs, so the body does not appear cropped at the top like in the screenshot above) can - and should - appear with empty sections at the left and right of the tabs (like in the first screenshot above).
