Hey guys,

Does anyone know of a good equivalent to route-me on Android? A slippy maps framework, which can overlays waypoints and lines, and use arbitrary TMS tile sources? Hopefully which has a nice caching system that includes memory, disk, and network use?

Regards,
Andrew

Hey Vitaliy,

Thanks for pointing this out. Do you know anything about this framework, and have you ever worked with it?

Any idea if there are any limitations or things it won't do that route-me does?

Regards,
Andrew

Yes. I'm  familiar with this framework. the only "limitation" i know is that by default it not support map rotation, but it can be fixed easily by creating one class. see attached file.
Oh yes, i dont remember exactly but framework is supported  by Android 2.2+, maybe even lower version but Im not sure about it.

Vitaliy,

Sorry to pepper you with questions, but do you know any good examples of apps using osmdroid?

However, when I search for many of these apps, they either don't exist, or many have switched to using Google Maps?

I am interested to know things like:
  • Is panning/zooming fast?
  • Does pinch zoom work smoothly?
  • Can many waypoints and line be overlayed, and the map is still performant?
  • Can I easily switch between multiple map sources?

Andrew

About applications that use this sdk : no info,   I dont know any apps but my own. but they currently unpublished.
Google maps have one very important limitation. You can not use google maps for real-time navigation because of licence limitations.

Best regards
