clearing out past photo

I'm having a problem with doing a series of photos. I have 9 photos
I'm trying to do and I get to the PATHS part and Make Selection,
etc... when I start a new document and Paste in the image... it is of
the previous photo I was trying to do. How do I clear out the
clipboard or clear out the Layers? I'm not sure what is causing the
problem.

I'm working with Photoshop CS2.

The first photo I did worked great, just the ones that follow continue
to use the image from the first one I did.
