CZW, TJK, and AP-C conceived and designed the research question; AP-C managed the project and was responsible for acquiring the data; CZW analysed the data, prepared the figures and tables, and wrote the first draft of the manuscript; CZW prepared the data for analysis; and JAS, YD, TYNT, RKK, AK, RCT, TJK, AP-C provided input on data analysis and interpretation of results. All authors revised the manuscript critically for important intellectual content and read and approved the final manuscript.

Some health care providers recommend that women not get pregnant in the first 6 months after finishing chemotherapy. They say that any damaged eggs will leave the body within those first 6 months. Other health care providers suggest waiting 2 to 5 years before trying to have a baby. This is because the cancer may be more likely to come back in the earlier years. And cancer treatment during pregnancy is more complicated.

What set this mother and son apart from the rest of the maternity ward was that she was the first woman in the UK to gave birth after having a section of her ovary re-implanted. Eleven years earlier in a bid to preserve her fertility, she had part of her ovary removed as she underwent the harsh treatment against the cancer in her body. Now cancer-free, she was at last a mother. Since then, more than 200 other children around the world owe their existence to this revolutionary technique.

This is the first study to directly assess personal exposure to PFAS through serologic testing in samples collected prior to diagnosis of ovarian and endometrial cancers. Utilizing a nested case-control design in PLCO, the NCI will evaluate serum samples collected after menopause from 318 ovarian cancer cases, 430 endometrial cancer cases, and a shared control group of 589 cancer-free women.
