I open .avi video with Avidemux and I set Video format to MPEG-4 AVC(under Configure, Bitrate tab I choose "Single Pass - Bitrate (Average)" and Target bitrate to 256 kb/s, under Filters I choose MPlayer resize to 480x360 and I also add a subtitles) audio format to AAC (Faac)(Under Configure, I choose Bitrate 96) and format to MP4(like a image below). When Avidemux convert video to .mp4 format I can play the file on my copmuter, but on my phone I can't. When I want to play it on my phone with native video player, it just show the error something like "Can't play this video". So the question is how to convert .avi video to .mp4 with Avidemux(because I want to have subtitles inside movie) to be playable with android phone(Android version 2.3.4) with native player.

I just downloaded MoboPlayer and MoboPlayer Codec for ARMV7VFP3 from Android Market. It reads the .mp4 files and it also reads .avi(xvid) and .srt(subtitles), so I don't even need to convert the videos. If anyone can't play their videos on their Android phone, I suggest MoboPlayer(It's available from Android Market for free).

Okay, I sideloaded it and after much difficulty I was able to tab over to stats for nerds as it seems this app is for phones and my device is a TV... but I did get it to finally come up. An .avi file with xvid & mp3 does seem to direct play with your standard app but as I posted above it doesn't with the AndroidTV app... The AndroidTV transcodes them with an unsupported container error (as can be soon on the above post screenshot)... cheers

Thanks for your reply... but I gotta say that there are literally trillions of avi files with xvid & mp3 out there in the world (before AVC took over) so how can you charge for an app that can't even direct play this extremely common file type? Am not being difficult, I just would like to know how & why this hasn't been fixed in Emby yet...

XviD is not a video format, but a video codec. XviD compresses videos with MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) method, so XviD can be played in MPlayer, VLC, Perian or other ASP-compliantdecoders. Besides, XviD can also be played in some DivX compatible DVD players, if burned to CD or DVD. However, XviD is still not compatible with the normally used iPhone, iPad, iPod, Androd, Zune,Apple TV, Windows Media Player, etc. So if you have got some other video formats and want to play them on XviD compatible players, converting other video formats to XviD is a good choice. If you havegot some XviD files and want to play them on iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android, Windows Media Player, etc, converting XviD to the more popular MP4, MOV, WMV, FLV, etc is a good choice. No matter you wantto convert videos to or from XviD, a professional XviD converter is needed.

These converters are hosted in a website; just upload the Xvid file, click the button to start the conversion process, and download the converted file. It generally takes a few minutes to convert, depending on the size of the original Xvid file. Two common converters include Convertio and Office-Converter.
