FortiClient is a Fabric Agent that delivers protection, compliance, and secure access in a single, modular lightweight client. A Fabric Agent is a bit of endpoint software that runs on an endpoint, such as a laptop or mobile device and communicates with the Fortinet Security Fabric to provide information, visibility, and control to that device.

For FortiGate administrators, a free version of FortiClient VPN is available which supports basic IPsec and SSL VPN and does not require registration with EMS. This version does not include central management, technical support, or some advanced features. The free VPN-only client does support SAML.

The customer is using a FortiGate 100F with version 6.2.7. I am not completely sure what version the Forticlient has. The problem itself is as follows: The customer uses LDAP for authentication of the Forticlient. As soon as any access restrictions are set in the AD that account can no longer connect with the Forticlient. It doesn't matter if the account is only allowed to access 1, 2, 5 or 10 machines in the network, as soon as anything is put in there the Forticlient stops connection at 80% and gives a general error message. When no restrictions are set this works without problem. However, the customer doesn't really want that every user account can access every machine in the network. I am not completely sure what he wants, but I assume it's something like "This remote client is only allowed to access the persons office client and nothing else."

The Fortinet Support assumes the problem only lies within LDAP and not with the FortiGate or the Forticlient itself. However, is it possible we have to add anything special to the restrictions in the AD? For example, do we have to add the machine where the AD is installed to the allowed machines so that the Forticlient can still communicate properly? Or do we have to change anything on the FortiGate itself? I am mainly asking because the customer also had problems with LDAP and receiving mails from his exchange server on his phone. In that case it helped to add the exchange server to a list of allowed devices and then it worked (please don't ask what this "list" is, because I have no idea, the customer just told me that). So is it possible something similar has to be done in this case?

Hey guys. Fighting with the FortiClient errors as well.We have this error on 6.2.x macOS clients with SSL VPN on FortiClients. Reboot usually helps. Or manuall reinstall (over existed). Or killing all the processes of FortiClient and starting it console again:

I've got the Fortinet client (v7.0.0.0029) installed on a Windows 10 machine. On occasion this happens: I get connected to the VPN and try to RDP to any resource on the network (that I have permission to), the VPN connection drops. This will happen all day until magically things start working again. IT doesn't have a clue about what could be going on and states it must be my Internet connection speed (16Mb down/2.5Mb up and it is very consistent). Thoughts?

I recently setup a client IPsec VPN on my FortiGate 80D running firmware v5.0, but it doesn't seem to be working properly. My goal is to access two VPN tunnels via the client VPN. Unfortunately, when I connect to the client VPN I'm unable to access anything over the two VPN tunnels. While connected to the Client VPN, I have no issues accessing the Internet.

I have discovered the Fortinet FSSO client on our DCs and I am trying to figure out what I need to do if anything. The DC is 2008 R2 and is pointing to a Linux VM that is running Fortigate. I found an article on Fortinet's website but not sure exactly what it means as I am completely in the dark when it comes to Fortimail and how it works.

Currently I am in the process of planning the upgrade of our DCs to 2012 R2 from 2008 R2. Trying to determine if the Fortinet client is going to be a bump in the road or a passer in the night situation. Can't tell you much on the environment or in this case what questions to ask.

You could download the package (tar.gz format) from support.fortinet.com. Once you extract the files, open the folders forticlientsslvpn > 32bit or 64bit, run the executable file "forticlientsslvpn" to launch the GUI.

While using IP-based access controls (blacklisting) to block network traffic from malicious client devices is core to a WAF solution, issues with using only IP-based access controls remain. Because IP-based access controls rely on identifying attackers by comparing their IP addresses with blacklist databases, network security concerns and vulnerabilities remain when attackers can:

Compared to changing IP address or hiding behind shared IP addresses, it is difficult and impractical to change the computer attackers use to probe defenses and launch attacks. Rather than relying only on IP-based access controls, FortiWeb's Device Tracking feature identifies suspected attackers based on the computers they are using. To identify a visiting device, FortiWeb generates a unique device ID according to a set of its characteristics, including the time zone, source IP, operating system, browser, language, CPU, color depth, and screen size. When Device Tracking is enabled and a device reputation security policy is selected, FortiWeb evaluates the reputation of client devices that trigger security violations. If a device triggers a security violation in a device reputation security policy, it will acquire a lower device reputation. Access to networks and servers can be managed according to a device's reputation.

I have some users that have trouble when connecting to my vpn, I want to see what the errors look like on the user side, hence I enabled the debugging in the client at "Log Level -> Debug" (where you go to see the about information)Where is that information dumped? I can't find any information on internet :(
