HOPE FOR A PAKISTANI
CHILD
PDG Dr. Ayub of RID 3270, Pakistan wanted a cardio corrective surgery
done for a poor 7 year old girl whose parents could not afford the cost
of heart surgery. He approached Rtn Madhumita Bishnu (Calcutta Uptown)
as
a fellow member of Rotarian Editors & Publishers Fellowship.
Rtn
Madhumita had put up the matter on the Dist 3290 website and
RC Calcutta
Mahanagar came forward to help. Now Rtn Dr. Bimal
Khetawat & President
Jalan & members of RC Calcutta Mahanagar
are organizing the operation at
Rabindra Nath Tagore Institute,
Kolkata. The girl will come with her parents
to Kolkata, once she gets
obtains the visa and have the surgery
done.
PRIP Raja Saboo, and other Rotarians have thanked one and all for
this wonderful gesture of Rotarians from RID 3290.
RI PRESIDENT DISCUSSES ZONE REALIGNMENT
________________________________________________________
Dear Rotarians,
The Rotary International Board of Directors has approved a
realignment
of zone boundaries that is available for review on
www.rotary.org.
As many of you know, RI directors are nominated by Rotary's 34 zones.
To ensure fairness in the election process, RI Bylaws (section
12.010.4)
require that each zone has approximately the same number of
Rotarians and
that the Board conduct a comprehensive review of zones
at least every eight
years.
Zone boundaries were last adjusted in 1995. Membership demographics
have changed considerably since then, causing concerns about
fairness.
The Board began discussing the zone structure in 2002 and
appointed
committees of current and past RI directors and past RI
presidents to study
the issue and make recommendations. The Board
presented a proposal to the
2007 Council on Legislation that would
have added an additional director and
maintained the current zone
boundaries. The Council rejected this proposal
and instead referred a
resolution to the Board requesting it to realign the
zones. At its
January 2008 meeting, the Board approved a realignment of zone
boundaries that will first be used to select members of director
nominating committees in 2008-09.
In accordance with the decision, I have appointed a committee to
discuss the implementation of this realignment structure and make
recommendations to the Board at its June 2008 meeting for final
approval. Recommendations will include zone "pairings," the order of
zone rotation for the ongoing selection of directors, and other
issues
such as future appointment of RRIMCs and RRFCs. Any objections
to sectioning
should be submitted to the general secretary via club
resolution no later
than 1 May 2008.
On behalf of the RI Board of Directors, I thank you for your
understanding and patience with this process.
Sincerely,
Wilfrid J. (Wilf) Wilkinson
President, Rotary International

-----------------------------------------
Dear District Governors:
Greetings from Evanston! I am writing to remind you about three
upcoming award deadlines. Please encourage your clubs to submit
their
nominations to you in a timely manner to enable you to meet
these deadlines.
Nomination materials for each of these awards are
available at
www.rotary.org by clicking on the following
menu items:
Members > General Information > Awards.
In order to be considered, nominations must arrive at RI World
Headquarters by the deadlines indicated below.
SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Deadline to submit one nomination to RI World Headquarters:
15 March
2008
This award recognizes outstanding club service projects. To be
eligible, projects must:
• address a significant problem or need
in the local community
• involve most or
all of the club members in personal rather than monetary service
• be commensurate with the club's size
and resources
• be capable of emulation
by other Rotary clubs
• be currently
active or reach a conclusion during the Rotary year for which the award is
given
• be carried out by a single
Rotary club
No club may receive the award more than once for the same project.
District governors may forward one nomination to RI for consideration,
to arrive at RI no later than 15 March 2008. Multiple nominations
from a
single district will not be considered.
PRESIDENTIAL CITATION
Deadline to submit a list of qualifying Rotary clubs, Rotaract clubs,
and Interact clubs to RI World Headquarters: 15 April 2008
The Presidential Citation program is revised on an annual basis by
the
RI president to complement the president's theme for the year.
This year's
program supports President Wilf Wilkinson's Rotary Shares
theme. The 2007-08
Presidential Citation brochure, available on
the Web, highlights different
activities that a club can participate
in to qualify for this award. To
qualify for a citation, clubs must
achieve a net increase of at least one
member by 31 March 2008
and complete one activity from each of the six
categories listed in
the brochure. Club presidents must fill out and sign
their club's
Presidential Citation Certification Form and send it to their
district
governor by 31 March 2008.
Rotaract and Interact clubs may also qualify for a Presidential
Citation by completing at least four activities overall from any
of the
categories in the brochure. The sponsoring Rotary club
must sign the
Rotaract and Interact Presidential Citation
Certification Form and submit it
to the district governor
by 31 March 2008.
District governors must then submit a list of qualifying Rotary,
Rotaract and Interact clubs, to RI no later than 15 April 2008.
Please
do not send the original certification forms to RI World
Headquarters, as
they will not be processed individually. Instead,
please just submit a list
of the qualifying clubs. These lists can
be e-mailed, faxed, or mailed
to our attention.
This year, district governors can receive special recognition if 50%
or
more of the clubs in their district qualify for the Presidential
Citation
and the governor and 50% of the district's club presidents
personally bring
a new member into Rotary between 1 July 2007 and
31 March 2008. If
your district meets these additional goals, please
indicate so on the list
you submit to RI and provide the names of
each of the new members brought
into Rotary along with the names
of their sponsors.
PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARD
Deadline to submit one nomination to RI World
Headquarters:
15 May 2008
The purpose of this award is to recognize Rotary clubs that have
generated increased awareness and understanding of Rotary
through
outstanding media coverage or public relations efforts.
Public relations
campaigns undertaken between 15 March 2007
and 15 March 2008 are eligible
for this year's award. Please note
that in order to qualify, clubs must have
undertaken a significant
media campaign that demonstrably improved Rotary's
visibility and
image within the community.
For more information on developing effective public relations, please
consult the RI Web site section on Public Relations by clicking on the
following menu items: Members > Running a club > Public
Relations.
No club may receive the award more than once for the same project.
District governors may forward one nomination to RI for consideration,
to arrive at RI no later than 15 May 2008. Multiple nominations from
a
single district will not be considered.
We appreciate your efforts to recognize exceptional clubs in your
district. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
