DISCONTINUATION OF RI-CLUB ADMINISTRATION SOFTWARE
________________________________________________________
1 April 2008
To: Rotary District Governors
Re: Club and District Administration Software (RI-CAS and RI-DAS)
Dear Governor,
I'm writing to announce that we are discontinuing a club and district
RI resource. As of 1 July 2008, we will no longer provide club and
district administrative software.
When RI purchased the software in August 2003 and re-branded it as
RI-CAS and RI-DAS, the intention was to provide clubs and districts
with an effective tool to assist with the weekly administrative
burdens faced by clubs and districts that would also eventually
integrate with Rotary's own on-line business application, the Member
Access Portal (MAP).
As your general secretary, I continually work to ensure that your
membership dues are used in the most effective manner. After five
years, we have found that RI-CAS and RI-DAS is only being used by a
very small percentage of clubs and districts worldwide. Lately, it
has become evident that supporting and developing RI-CAS/DAS is
diverting key resources away from other critical organization
projects. It is just not in our organization's best interests to
continue to provide access to, distribute, or support this software.
Clubs and districts may still use the software after 1 July 2008.
However, at the start of the new Rotary year, support and new versions
will not be available. An even smaller number of clubs and districts
use an online version of the software. On 1 July 2008, we will no
longer support the online version of RI-CAS and RI-DAS and access to
the online service will not be available after 1 September 2008.
Thank you for your understanding of this necessary change to your
resources.
Sincerely,
Ed Futa
General Secretary
Rotary International Club Administration Software
Rotary International District Administration Software
(RI-CAS & RI-DAS: DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION SOFTWARE)
Statement
What Changed?:
On 1 July 2008, Rotary International will discontinue providing to
clubs and districts the administrative software, RI-CAS and RI-DAS.
This software was available as a free download to clubs and districts
from Rotary's website and for purchase from the Rotary store.
Initially, it was offered in order to provide Rotary clubs and
districts with an effective administrative tool that would eventually
integrate with RI's online business services, the Member Access Portal
(MAP).
Why did RI make this change?:
There are many reasons we are making this change:
· extremely small numbers of clubs and districts actually used
the software
· even fewer clubs and districts used an on-line version
(which will no longer be available after 1 September 2008)
· cost-effective use of your membership dues - the support and
new development costs to the organization far outweigh the usage
· clubs and districts that want to continue using the
standalone administrative software can still do so
