Our District Governor Rtn. Vinod Krishnan Kutty has announced Real Heroes Awards to honour real everyday heroes.
Who are the real heroes: In each of our community, we can see ordinary people doing extra ordinary things by touching the lives of the less privileged people...not caring for publicity..not craving for recognition. We need to find them and honour them.
Let me give you an example: Meet Shyam Kumar from Palakkad Kerala – an auto driver, an avid reader and also a passionate environmentalist. Shyam lives in a village called Thenkurrisi in the Palakkad district of Kerala.
He started by planting trees around his house – some large shade trees and some fruit trees that attract many birds, squirrels and bats.
As soon as a young tree grows to a particular height with a decent girth, Shyam ties a plastic bottle with small holes in it to the plant. The water dripping from the bottle keeps the soil around the tree moist.
On seeing Shyam’s work to keep the environment healthy, others in the village have also joined him. They help him plant saplings and today, within a radius of 15 kms around the village, there are some 23,000 trees.
Friends, we need to locate such people...
The Selection process: Please encourage each and every member of your Club to make a nomination. Each club must then make a selection and send one nomination. Club nomination should include a brief write up of the extraordinary work done by the individual in not more than 300 words. You can include testimonials, photographs, newspaper clippings highlighting the work done by the nominee. A 3 minute video can also be included.
More details of the process will be communicated to you after discussing with the Jury.
Jury: An eminent 3 member jury will select the 3 Real Heroes. They will be recognised in a glittering function at Mela , our District Conference on Feb 17th, by a celebrity. Each award-winner will receive a Citation and cash award of Rs. 50000/- each.
Dear friends, Please look around and locate those unsung heroes who made a difference.

This is the last date for each Club to submit their nomination to their GGR, along with the nomination form, with a copy to me by email at balag...@hotmail.com,. Each club can give only One nomination.
But encourage your members to submit more nominations. At the club level do a screening and submit one recommendation to your GGR. Also please recognise the Real Hero that you have selected from your Club in an appropriate function.
Friends, don’t lose this opportunity to unearth a gem, which may be lying unnoticed.
