For the benefit of those of you who could not attend this morning: I mentioned this morning that the club has accumulated over the years a number of "recognition points", which are given in response to certain kinds of donations to the foundation. The actual calculation can be complicated, but there is a report on the RI web site that I can see, as foundation chair, which shows the total.
Our club recognition points will disappear when the club is disbanded. It seems a shame to leave them unused. Therefore, with Nava's blessing, I transferred most of these recognition points into the recognition point accounts of individual members of the club. This transfer appears to be going smoothly, so if all goes well many of you will be receive some well-deserved recognition in a few weeks.
Some members who are considering not continuing as Rotarians asked about the possibility of transferring their recognition points to someone else. This can be done, but there's a little paperwork. I will assist anyone who wants to do so. I will also be sending to everyone their current tally, so they'll know whether it makes sense to do so.
Note that the calculation of recognition points is a little peculiar: you can give huge amount of money to Rotary and not get any points, or you can give a modest amount and get a lot; it matters which fund, and when, and there are various tricks, etc. Also, points don't begin to accumulate until after you have received your first PHF. The bottom line is that I don't want anyone to think that their number of recognition points is a direct reflection on their dedication to Rotary or value to the club. The only thing it reflects is certain kinds of contributions to the foundation.
Also note that one recognition points have been transferred from one account to another, they can't transferred again. You're stuck with them. The total I send to you will be the number of points that you have available to transfer, which may be much lower than your total.
I've done some more research on foundation recognition points, and unfortunately it appears that it is not possible to transfer recognition points from an individual to a club. There doesn't seem to be a way that we can pool them all together into one total and then use that. Individuals will need to do their own transfers to whomever they choose, but I'll try to make that easy.
