Yesterday I received a handwritten note from our scholarship winner, addressed to the club, which I will transcribe. (any typos are my own)
I wish to express my utmost gratitude for having been awarded $1000 from the Rotary Club of Belmont Scholarship.
I loved high school and everything BHS had to offer. I joined many different clubs, sports, and was involved all over the community. It took me until junior year to find what am now truly passionate about: community service. I joined the Belmontian Club, met Ms. Meinlcoff, and my life was really changed forever. I earned a Presidential Service Award and was elected President of the Belmontian Club, but that was only the beginning. Senior year, I created my own non-profit, The Shirt Project. I paint custom designs on t-shirts, sell them, and donate the proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House Charity. I raised over $500! These experiences were invaluable, and I know I will continue to do service for a long time coming. Looking back over my high school experience, there isn't a single thing I would change, and as I head off to George Washington University in the fall, I'm even more excited to see what the future holds. Once again, thank you so much for this scholarship.
