Giving & Grants

November, 2022

Take action to create positive change locally and globally

High-impact service through Programs of Scale

The 2021-22 Programs of Scale grant was awarded to Together for Healthy Families in Nigeria, a member-led program focused on saving the lives of Nigerian mothers and newborns by improving access to quality health care. The project is sponsored by Districts 1860 (Germany) and 9110, 9125, 9141, and 9142 (Nigeria), as well as the Rotary Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal, and Child Health. Read more about this program.

GIVING UPDATES

Foundation Month

Throughout November, Rotary Foundation Month, you’ll have a lot of opportunities to show your support for the Foundation. In addition to celebrating with a gift on Giving Tuesday, 29 November, you can find ways to thank donors in your club or district. As we reflect on the good we’ve done together, the Foundation will be sending many thank-you notes to our supporters, who make all of our work possible.

Giving Tuesday

Support The Rotary Foundation this Giving Tuesday. On 29 November, we hope to have as many Rotary members as possible take action and give to our Foundation so we can continue to make a difference in communities that need our help. Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that empowers all of us to give through service, kindness, and financial support. We hope you and your club celebrate by Doing Good in the World and supporting our Foundation. The top engaged clubs will be featured on My Rotary. See last year’s top performers.

Give the gift of Rotary

Why give the gift of Rotary? Because your support will help fund the life-changing work of Rotary members who provide sustainable solutions to the world’s most pressing needs — from supplying water filters that ensure access to clean drinking water to providing medical equipment so newborns can have a healthy start. The Rotary Foundation needs help from people like you who will take action to make these projects possible. Consider giving the gift of Rotary this December so we can keep Doing Good in the World.

GRANT UPDATES

Programs of Scale

Is your club or district ready to scale up a successful service project to make an even larger impact? Each year, The Rotary Foundation awards one US$2 million Programs of Scale grant to a well-developed, evidence-based program with the potential to expand and attract experienced partner organizations. While the application cycle for the 2022-23 Programs of Scale grant is now closed, clubs and districts interested in applying for next year’s award are encouraged to begin preparing early. Learn how to qualify and apply for this grant.

Global grant-funded scholar survey

Rotary recently surveyed people who received global grant-funded scholarships. One of the most significant results is that scholars reported using their area of focus expertise often in their paid work. The survey also posed questions about Rotary engagement to help identify opportunities to better engage the scholars. Learn more about the survey results and Rotary’s scholarship opportunities.

RESOURCES & REFERENCE

Area of focus guidelines

We’ve updated the area of focus guidelines for global grant funding. These guidelines are for members who want to apply for a global grant from The Rotary Foundation to support activities in:

§  Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

§  Disease prevention and treatment

§  Water, sanitation, and hygiene

§  Maternal and child health

§  Basic education and literacy

§  Community economic development

§  Environment

Each document includes information specific to that area of focus, including the Foundation’s goals, community assessments, sustainability considerations, project eligibility, monitoring and evaluation, scholarship opportunities, and suggested resources. We encourage members to read the whole document to fully understand the guidelines before they apply for a grant.

Updated community assessment results form

We’ve updated the Global Grants Community Assessment Results form to include questions that apply to all environment and water, sanitation, and hygiene projects.

Creating ‘real impact’

Through Rotary’s Action Plan, our members are working to measure and share the positive, long-term changes they’re making in their communities. Francis “Tusu” Tusubira, who served on Rotary’s Strategic Planning Committee, discussed the importance of creating “real impact” through Rotary and measuring our results. Read the conversation.
