About 900 patients were treated for various ailments and over 150 artificial limbs were fitted,

10. Spread the message and got participation of Rotary Districts Trichy, Madurai, Salem and Coimbatore, Rotary Ulsoor and Thamizh Sangam Bangalore (for toilets, saris and lungis) and 10 Rotary Clubs in Malaysia (for artificial limbs) .established a permanent bonding of friendship with Rotary club of Nallur of yazhpanam who have promised to physically support us in all our field work there. We appreciate their association and help with gratitude.
Such wide contacts in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and other countries will ensure continuity and scaling up of service. While its initial mission was to conduct medical camp and provide artificial limbs, Dhanvanthri is increasingly into reconstruction of war-ravaged Mullaithivu and socio-economic development of Kilinochi, Jaffna and other affected areas. PDG.Rtn.A.SAMPATHKUMARRI - 3230 - CHENNAI

Dear Rotarians,
16th Feb 2014 (Sunday) – Day 1
Team comprising Rtn PDG Sampath, Rtn Bala, Rtn Dhanasekar, Dr. Guna Dr. Sai, Capt Shibu Isaac, Girish & Tanuj embarked on a memorable journey to Mullaitheevu via Srilankan Airlines UL 122 reaching Colombo at around 10.30 hrs.
Van took us from Colombo to Mullaitheevu on A9 Highway. We stopped over for Lunch at Shri Murugan Vilas in the Afternoon.
While Commander PDG Sampath and his platoon stayed inside the Army Headquarters in a luxurious commander’s bungalow, his lieutenant Dhanasekar had the opportunity to stay in an ultra luxurious “Nugasewana” Guest house, with Shibu.
17th Feb 2014 (Monday) – Day 2
The next day morning the team began its first day of operation by going to a village and collecting water samples and from another well from “Alampil”. There upon the team proceeded to Alampil Roman Catholic Vidyalayam, the School that Rotary wishes to take up as its next project in terms of building and infrastructure. The School still has children studying under thatched roof.
Hats off to PDG Sampath and Dr. Sai Prasanna, in the manner they went out of their way to merge with the localites’ and touching the emotional chord with such finesse.
The school authorities then took us to a new location nearby where this school is going to be relocated. An audio recording of the School Principal and his expectations from Rotary is attached.
From there we proceeded to the Toilet Project in NAYARU Area and it is here that we all saw the emotional bonding that PDG Sampath had with the locals when all the 10 toilets were inaugurated.
It is to be mentioned here that septuagenarian I guess 75 years to be precise, Rtn Bala who took the grinding and pounding of the hot humid climate and at the end of the 10th Toilet inauguration, the rest of us looked famished but he looked so energetic and eagerly looking for 10 more toilets to be inaugurated. HATS OFF!!
From there we proceeded to a Srilankan Army Unit, where Col Prasanna of the Srilankan Army hosted all of us over Tea and snacks and allowed us to take photographs inside his office. He was a cheerful man throughout. Won’t know what he was during war time!!!!
Afternoon we proceeded to the vocational training centre, where stipends were given to the children, undergoing various vocational training program, of Rs. 1000/- each. The stipend was given in 2 batches.
Then we proceeded to Mullaitheevu area, the most affected area where Army had built housing colonies for locals. The locals were really expecting us and we had the joy of really giving them Saree and lungies. The joy of giving and receiving can be seen in depth through the photographs.
The last pit-stop was the War Museum where we all got to see the captured LTTE Arsenal.
18th Feb 2014 – Day 3
We began the tour by visiting the Mullaivaikal region to see the famous Italian ship and subsequently to the LTTE Submarine Yard and then to see Soosai’s house and the Swimming pool. Enroute a wheel chair was given to a war victim by the Shristi Foundation. Then we proceeded to Kilinochchi and a place called Jayanthi Nagar where the head of the institution is Mr. Gandhi, gave us a good insight into life here. They hosted us for asumptuous lunch and subsequently took us for a tour of the entire Ashram. It was quite nice to see the inmate Girls singing Songs and Dr Sai Prasanna reciprocated with a Master piece song from Thirukkural. Not only Shristi foundation gave Music System but couple of us Rotarians also donated in Cash.
We also visited a Senior Citizens home travelling through the longest possible route in the area. Here agan Dr. Sai was the Centre stage Character. Great of her!!
19th Feb 2014 – Day 4
Left Kilinochchi by 5.30pm on 18th Feb only to reach Colombo at 2.30am on 19th Feb. Our Odyssey continued by crossing a river on a barge to settle for the little morning to rest at Ruskin Island resort.
20th Feb 2014 – Day 5
20th Feb, the team was up to reach the Airport by 5.30am and board UL 121 back to Chennai.
It may have been a routine trip for 5 of the Rotarians but for 3 of us including 2 from US, it was a different story, both nostalgic and a life time experience.
I sincerely thank Rtn Dhanasekar for all the coordination before and during the trip and the bonhomie everyone shared all through the 4 days of our lifetime experience.
Whether I am in Rotary or not, my support to this one Project Dhanavanthri Srilanka will go on as long as the real heroes PDG Sampath, Rtn Dhanasekar, Dr. Sai Prasanna, Rtn Bala, Rtn Guna and the likes continue…….
In all the years of Rotary I have seen Rotarians taking pride in Projects where their personal and business image expands and with the least of effort and sweat. I never knew that Rotarians as part of Dhanavanthri would ever do such a back breaking project so relentlessly and so with all earnestness.
Lastly thanks to everyone and if there was anything missing on my part during the tour, kindly accept that as my ignorance or limitations, as I continue to stay steadfast towards this cause.
Yours Sincerely,
Capt (Rerd) Shibu Isaac
