Why creating new clubs matters
If we want to expand Rotary’s reach, building new clubs is important. But it’s also essential to assess the needs of the community first. Kelly Willman recognized potential Rotarians among her colleagues at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in New Jersey, USA, but she knew that many health care professionals have inflexible schedules. Rather than trying to bring these prospective members to Rotary, she decided to bring Rotary to them. To do so, Willman established the Somers Point Healthcare satellite club of the Rotary Club of Somers Point.

Whether it’s a satellite club or a more traditional one, you have many options that could suit the needs of its prospective members. Explore flexible alternatives for starting clubs:

Service Above Self Award recipients to be honored in Taiwan
This Rotary year, 132 members will receive our Service Above Self Award. The prestigious award, which honors members who embody Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self, is considered the highest honor bestowed on a member. The recipients will be notified by the district governors who nominated them. They will also be invited to a special celebratory reception at the Rotary International Convention in Taipei, Taiwan.
Coming soon: An enhanced system for managing prospective members
Each year, more than 30,000 people visit rotary.org/join and express interest in joining a Rotary or Rotaract club. Rotary will soon launch a new system that club and district leaders can use to manage these inquiries (formerly called “membership leads”). The system lets membership candidates choose the Rotary or Rotaract club that most closely matches their interests and needs. When they submit an inquiry, leaders of that club will receive an email notification. District leaders will also use the system to assign inquiries to new clubs if the candidate doesn’t join the initial club.

In the coming weeks, watch for an announcement that the new system for managing prospective members is live, and learn how your clubs can connect with membership candidates!
Help Rotary recognize the people in your community who help others
The Rotary Award for Excellence in Service to Humanity recognizes nonmembers, including partners and spouses of Rotarians and Rotaractors, who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service through Rotary. Each district governor may nominate one candidate from their district for this award each year in March. Honorees receive an engraved crystal and a lapel pin. If you know anyone who qualifies, encourage your governor to nominate them.
Rotarians in Norway go online with Digital Connect
When members in District 2260 (Norway) realized that people who seek the power of the Rotary community may prefer to — or need to — participate online for a number of reasons, they established a fully online club. Learn how Enebakk Digital Connect D2260 uses Google Meet and other social platforms to connect.
Finding belonging, purpose, and hope in Rotary after a loss
When Assistant Governor Tia Coppus’ husband died, she felt emotionally drained and was uncertain how to re-enter everyday life. Discover how Rotary provided her with purpose and a sense of belonging after a difficult journey.
