This morning I mixed up our new organic liquid fertilizer, 1 oz. to a gallon of water, and fertilized all our 30 plants (cabbages and collards) and our unsprouted seed beds. Then I watered really well and hope it rains tonight. It would be good to water again on Saturday, for sure, if we get no rain.
My arms have finally recovered from running the Till-o-Matic on Tuesday. After those 2 hours of tilling, I'm really looking forward to seeing our garden grow!
Erskine came by this morning and picked a few tomatoes. He reminded me the names of the two older women from his church (St. Paul's) that worked Tuesday night -- Gladys and Lillian ("Mrs. Greer," as he calls her). I don't remember if I told you that their church is the church that Joanne Collins, Kansas City city council member (1974-1991), belongs to. I found this letter to the editor from 2007:
and I found this entry:
Joanne Collins — of Kansas City, Jackson County, Mo. Republican. Delegate to Republican National Convention from Missouri, 1972 (alternate), 1988. Female. Black.
