Hello Rose Friends and Crew!

Summer is on us, and it's time to get things rolling for the 27th Annual James River Batteau Festival!

This years festival will run from Saturday June 16 through Saturday June 23rd.

We will, as usual, be loading gear and and taking the boat to Lynchburg on Friday the 15th, and unpacking and cleaning things up on Sunday the 24th. All possible hands are requested to help with this process.

We have had a lot of change in crew and in operation in the past few years, and this year's trip is no exception. There has been talk of a second boat for a couple of years, but we are holding off due to everyone's busy schedules. Some of the crew will be the same as always, and some will be new faces.

Jacob (I) will be captain this year, as the rest of the family can't dedicate the time to it. Kenny should be on board for the whole trip and will be the First Mate. Mike, Ellen, Daniel & Hilary will be on board for most of the trip but will likely have to take some time off for work (backwards--I know!).

Important Items:

1) Crew. We need to get a handle on who will be wanting to crew on the boat and when. I have created a Google spreadsheet to schedule crew this year, much like last year.

• Open the Spreadsheet Here. Fill in your personal info and put a '1' under the day(s) that you want to be on the boat
  
• Please get your requested days on the spreadsheet by May 25th.
  
• Keep in mind the weekends are always really full, so request weekdays if at all possible. I may have to limit the number of people on board if it gets too crowded.
  

 2) Workdays:

• Saturday June 9th at Mike Neal's house at: 8983 Faber Road, Faber VA 22938. 9am-4pm followed by a swim and grill out evening for anyone interested. Click . Click here to view on Google Calendar.
• Friday June 8th at Wingina Site - for anyone interested in volunteering to weed eat/mow/cut & move logs, etc.

3) Virginia Canals and Navigations Society:

• If you aren't a member, I request that you join. Having at least 4 members on our crew allows us to get a discounted boat registration fee, and we should all be supporting the parent organization. Plus the Tiller publication is really quite excellent and is a great incentive for the small membership fee. See http://www.vacanals.org/membership/ to become a supporting member!
  

4) Feel free to forward this email to anyone you think it should be sent to! Invite them to our Google Group--it allows people to add and remove themselves without us having to keep an up-to-date list of everyone's email addresses which is a difficult task at best!
