Hello,

I've got some various bits of ROSCo news to share with you.

Those of you who check the ROSCo website will notice I'm not the only
one posting there anymore. You'll find some new posts by "threethirty"
as well, a welcome addition. Hopefully he'll introduce himself to the
group soon.

As the number of content contributors grows, I've expanded the page on
contributing to the website to include guidelines about what should go
on the front page:

http://www.richmondcomputes.org/contribute_to_web

From that page, I want to highlight an excellent new resource that I
linked to:

http://www.getgnulinux.org/

This is a very user-friendly website that introduces Windows users to
Desktop Linux.

###

Not long ago Matt Guynn got some support here to get the Gaim program
working for him. I encourage others to the same. If it becomes
distracting to receive every e-mail to group directly as the volume
picks up, Google Groups offers a "Digest" mode that will insure you get
at most one message per day. Sign into your Google account if you want
to make that change.

###

Personally, I continue to help more people switch to Linux on the
desktop locally. While I have recommended the Mandriva distribution in
the past, the new switchers may try Ubuntu because they've heard good
things about it, and there is easier access to free software
collections, compared to the commercial Mandriva club.

I'll be curious to see Ubuntu works for them! In my own testing of the
last Ubuntu release, it had a serious bug in the printing system that
prevented a valid printer from being recognized, where Mandriva had no
problem. Perhaps that been fixed now.

###

In closing, thanks for joining the ROSCo group, and please feel free to
ask questions about desktop open source here, or share your vision of
what you'd the group to become.

Mark

Hello ROSCO friends,

I am trying to install the photo editor GIMP, but after installation, as I attempt to start the program, I receive the message that it's missing the file
limpgimpui_2.0-0.dll and therefore cannot run.

Any ideas?

Matt

Matt,

You may be the only Windows/Gimp user on this list.

However, I'm sure you can get good help from the "Windows Gimp" users
lists, which I found here:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/gimpwin-users/

From a quick search through their archives, it seems the following may help:

- Make sure GTK+ is also installed
- try installing it again...

If you follow-up on the gimp/win list, be sure to let them know which
version you tried to install.

Matt:

Until someone gives you a definate answer you can use Portable GIMP
(portableapps.com) it's pckaged altogether so you shouldn't have to
worry about missing .dll's.
