Hello there,

Here's an update on recent ROSCo activity and website updates.

##
## More Linux Switchers, Ubuntu Rising
##

I continue to help individuals and families switch to Linux one by one.
A difference lately is that the installations have been Ubuntu rather
than Mandriva. This fueled in part by the convenient stack of
live/install CDs that Ray shared to give out. (By the way Ray: I'm
almost through my stack now!). In some cases people have been
requesting it specifically, and I have to say I'm personally impressed
with it.

I wrote up a review of Ubuntu Edgy vs Mandriva 2007 on my ROSCo blog:
http://www.richmondcomputes.org/blog/mark/mandriva_2007_vs_ubuntu_edgy

Both are great desktop distributions, but Ubuntu now looks more
polished overall.

##
## Linux on Old Hardware
##

Another theme lately has been using Linux as a solution to get
productivity out of older hardware. I recently added several new pages
to the site along these lines:

Upgrading from Windows 98 to Linux
http://www.richmondcomputes.org/blog/mark/upgrading_from_windows_to_linux

Recommend Linux Distributions for Older Hardware
http://www.richmondcomputes.org/recommended_distros_for_old_hardware

Performance Tips for Linux
http://www.richmondcomputes.org/performance_tips_for_linux

Improvements are welcome to those last two "resource" pages. Ask me
about a "Content Contributor" account at ROSCo if you don't already
have one and would like to contribute more directly to the site.

To keep the content consistent, we do have some minimal guidelines for
contributing to the site:

##
## Richmond Linux Users Group Update
##

Richmond Linux Users Group, also known as "RLUG" is a related group in
Richmond. They
focus just on Linux, have more frequent and more technical discussions
there.
They recently switched to using Google groups, and the new group
discussion
area can found over here:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/richmondlug

They have a home page here:

##
## Standard Disclaimer
##

As usual, further contributions or questions through the list or
website are
welcome.

Mark,

That's excellent news. I think I gave you half the stack of Ubuntu CD's
that we received. Most of the other half is available if you need it.

Ray
