The T20 is a competent, capable machine that is highly compatible with
Linux. It was my everyday computer until just a few days ago. Here's
some basics about the machine:
700 Mhz processor
256 Gigs memory
12 Gig hard disk (2 or 3 gigs are used by the OS)
This specs seem slim compared to the latest models, but Ubuntu
performed well with these resources.
As an older machine, it does have some quirks to be aware of:
- there some minor brighter spots on the screen. These have been
there since I owned it and are generally not noticeable.
- The built-in ethernet port isn't working due to a "corrupted
EEprom". In theory you may able to flash the eeprom to fix it, but
that didn't work when I tried. The workaround is to use the PCMCIA or
USB with an ethernet or wireless adapter.
- The battery barely holds a charge. It is refillable through
BatteryRefill.com. I used them before, and was very satisfied.
- At rare times, the machine has had power connection issues. It has
spontaneously turned off, or not responded to powering on. It has
worked fine recently.
If you are willing to put up with these quirks, it's a nice laptop
with a good keyboard, a titanium inner shell. All the special laptop
features work:
- Thinklight
- Mute, volume-up and volume-down buttons
- Screen brightness adjustment
- Suspend
- Hibernate
- Docking (I'll throw in a port replicator for another $10!)
- Playing DVDs
- "UltraBay" makes it easy to swap in a CD-RW drive or a second
battery.
It's also relatively light, at 5 pounds.
T20s are currently selling for about $200 on E-bay. I'm asking $100.
That's my pitch. Any takers?
