I am experimenting with websockets and mjpegcanvas. Now have webcam-images streaming on a webpage, and I wondered if it is possible to stream audio to the website also (from an audio_common stream).

Does anybody have experience with this?

Greetings, Edward

Hi Edward,

I am not aware of anyone working on playing audio in browser using rosbridge.  I imagine you could write a JavaScript widget that emulates the behavior of audio_play.cpp:

  https://kforge.ros.org/audiocommon/audio_common/file/13166e69e1ee/audio_play/src/audio_play.cpp

using HTML5 audio streaming:

but this is just a guess.

Hi Edward-

Also to my knowledge, no one has done streaming audio to the browser from ROS. I am not sure how this would work over a web-socket connection. It may be possible by fooling around with the <audio> tag's API and feeding it the MP3 frames from rosbridge, but I honestly have never tried.

If that fails, another solution could be to create a mp3_streamer in ROS, much like mjpeg_server, and connect the browser's <audio> tag directly to the mp3_streamer.

For web browser specific questions, be sure to check out discussions on robot-w...@googlegroups.com as well!

Best,

Russell
