Dearest Family and Friends,

We would like to ask you to pray for our son Joshua at 10:00 a.m., this Monday, October 29th.  He is scheduled to have a full body PET/CT scan at ARA midtown located on 38th Street.  His oncologist, Dr. Cooksie, ordered this exam to ensure that he doesn’t have any other tumors on his body.  Please pray fervently that no more tumors are found. Also, please pray that if it’s the Lord’s will, that the remaining cancer in Joshua’s skull has miraculously healed itself.  In addition, please pray that the Lord bestows wisdom upon all the medical professionals who will determine the best treatment plan for our sweet Joshua. Lastly, we ask you to pray that Joshua and our family are covered with the most precious blood of Jesus and our Mother Mary’s mantle so that we may have peace and health of our body, mind, and spirit.

We love you all and thank God for each and every one you in our daily prayers. May God bless you always.

Dearest Family and Friends,

Our dear son Joshua completed his PET/CT scan today and the results will be revealed to us tomorrow, Tuesday, October 30th, at our consultation with his oncologist, Dr. Raven Cooksey, his neurosurgeon Dr. Timothy George, and the other doctors that will be involved with his treatment. Joshua’s appointment is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.  Please storm the heavens for us during this time and ask the Holy Spirit to give us the necessary wisdom to ask the proper questions to ensure Joshua receives the best care possible. Also, please pray the doctors will care for our son as though he is their very own child.  In addition, please pray that they speak slowly with us so that we may absorb everything they need to do for our sweet Joshua. Lastly, please pray that our heart, mind, and spirit is prepared to receive whatever news may come. 

Presently, we have faith, but we are exhausted.  It’s so challenging to care for all our children while we have one that is very sick. For this reason, I ask you to also pray for our other three beautiful children Maile, Noah, and Christian.  Marty and I also desperately need your prayers because it is difficult on us, as well.  Pray that we uplift and encourage one another, and that our love for one another will conquer all that comes our way. We, too, will remember you in our prayers. Jesus, we trust in you.

We received good and bad news today.  First, the good news is that Dr. Cooksey said that the cancer cells in Joshua’s skull are in remission. The bad news is that the cancer has manifested itself in the bilateral lymph nodes of the neck.  Given these most recent results from the PET/CT scan, all the oncologist in the office will meet tomorrow to determine our next course of action. Dr. Cooksey, the oncologist, believes chemotherapy will be needed, as well as a steroid. The chemotherapy that would be given is called Vinblastine and the steroid is prednisone. These treatments would occur over a year, as well as other routine examinations. Dr. Cooksey told Joshua he will probably be with her until he is 23 years old. Tomorrow, she will contact us regarding their decision about Joshua’s treatment. 

Now, I must give thanks to our dear Lord for healing the cancer in Joshua’s skull. I humbly ask that all of us unite in prayer and ask our Lord to kill the cancer in his lymph nodes within the neck. Please also pray that the cancer will not spread any further than his neck. Continue praying that the cancer does not impact any more of his bones and other lymph nodes within his body. Additionally, we must pray that the cancer never spreads to his organs.

Your prayers have been so powerful; we pray that you keep storming the heavens for our sweet Joshua and all those who are impacted by this horrible, ugly disease.  Our hearts broke as we witnessed other children receiving chemotherapy and their loving parents by their side. It was so difficult to see some vomiting, and others with no hair. Yet, in spite of all we saw today, they were beautiful, strong, and courageous.  They truly are heroes.

Once again, thank you for all your love and support. You remain in our prayers. May God be with us all. Jesus, we trust in you.

I received a call from Dr. Cooksey at 5:00, today.  She said that the tumor board meeting included the radiologist, pathologist, and all the oncologists. After reviewing Joshua’s PET/CT scan once again, they all were in agreement that we should not start the chemotherapy/steroid treatment just yet.  Rather, they believed it would be best to closely monitor Joshua through regular examinations.  This decision was concluded because the scan revealed that the location of the impacted lymph nodes is where the head normally drains itself, and Joshua just had an operation in this area. This could potentially be good news.  They are hopeful that what revealed itself on the scan may have actually been the good hystocites cleaning up the cancer, as opposed to the rogue ones. 

We humbly ask that you pray fervently that these  truly are the good hystocites that are taking care of Joshua’s healing. In addition, please continue to pray that the cancer, Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis, will never reactivate itself in any other other part of his body from the top of his head to the soles of his feet.  If, in fact, what they saw on the scan is true healing taking place, this would definitely be a miracle. 

Dr. Cooksey knew I was anxious about all the news that she shared with me; hence, she concluded her phone call with me by saying that the entire group did not feel like we would miss an entire window of opportunity with Joshua if the lymph nodes were rogue ones.  If any of Joshua’s future examinations reveal rogue ones, then chemotherapy/steroid treatment would begin immediately. Please, please pray that their decisions have been guided by the Holy Spirit and that Joshua’s life will not be adversely impacted by this new plan. Lastly, please pray that their decision will bring about a new, abundant life for Joshua and that He will always love and serve the Lord our God with his whole heart, mind, and soul. 

Next Tuesday, November 6th, we are scheduled to see Dr. Cooksey again. Please pray she doesn’t feel any bumps on Joshua’s neck. Thus far, we still know he will remain in her care until he is 23.  Our family simply cannot express our level of gratitude to you for all your prayers.  You remain in our daily prayers, too. Jesus, we trust in you—the Great Physician.

We thank all of you for your prayers.  It’s your prayers that give us peace and hope. This past Tuesday, November 6th, Joshua had his first follow-up appointment with Dr. Cooksey. She thoroughly examined his entire body to ensure she didn’t feel any abnormal growth in his lymph nodes. After examining Joshua, we reviewed the PET/CT scan on the computer screen and saw the bilateral lymph nodes in his neck that they are watching closely.  Upon reviewing the scans, we saw that there are a line of lymph nodes on the right side of his neck that are very active; on the left side, we noticed there was less activity.  Given we do not presently know if this is good or bad activity in the lymph nodes, I ask for your continued fervent prayers for Joshua.  Seeing all the activity in his lymph nodes, made me quite nervous. 

I humbly ask that all of you who are participating in the 33 Day Consecration to our Lady of the Miraculous Medal to pray for Joshua’s miraculous healing. Please pray specifically that the lymph nodes in his neck are truly cleaning up all the cancer.  Also, please pray that the cancer that was in his skull is truly healing and that it will never return again.  I also ask that you pray that the area of his skull that was decompressed will return to its normal, healthy state.  Lastly, please pray that over time his skull will perfectly fuse together so that he will not have to undergo reconstructive surgery down the road.  Let’s pray that the doctors will never have to operate on his head again. 

Mother Mary, I ask that you intercede for us to your Son, our dear Lord Jesus Christ, so that our son, Joshua Luke Escalona, will be miraculously cured and glorify Him all the days of his life. Jesus, we trust in you. Thy will be done.
