Dearest Family and Friends,

We are immensely grateful to you for blessing our family with peace.  Joshua’s benefit concert was a huge success and it gave us a good jump start towards paying Joshua’s looming medical expenses. It also came at the perfect time because the following Monday we received a substantial medical bill.  I can’t even begin to express how your acts of charity have blessed us. We are immensely grateful for all of you.

Before and after the concert, some of you asked whether or not we had a GoFundMe account for Joshua and we finally do!  A very special couple, Jim and Rosie Carillo, from our former parish, St. John the Evangelist, in San Marcos, Texas, just launched a campaign for Joshua and it is now available at gf.me/u/rf5sc6.  We invite you to read his story and share it with your friends. We’re grateful to the Carillos for reaching out to our family.

Although the benefit concert was a couple of weeks ago, people are still raving about the amazing talent that they witnessed! It started off with a medley of music performed by our budding pianists and alumni from the Michie Music Club.  The children were absolutely amazing, as well as their parents who gave so unselfishly of themselves to support Joshua’s cause.

How about those phenomenal performances by Fr. Nolt, Anna Carney, and Dr. Whitmore! We’re ever so grateful to them for giving so graciously of their time and talent.  Our family had an overwhelming sense of joy to see Fr. Nolt and Dr. Whitmore, the dynamic duo, once again coming to our rescue.  I say this because they were both there on the day of Joshua’s operation.
Dr. Whitmore was in the waiting room during his operation and Fr. Nolt was waiting by Joshua’s hospital room door at 3:00 to anoint him.  Upon seeing Fr. Nolt, I couldn’t help but envision the scripture that reads, '”Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with Me.” Rev 3:20

After the professional musicians performed, we heard from up and rising country western singer Michael Norris. Wow! What a voice he had on him!  It was so special to have Michael singing, his sister Sarah playing the piano (Michie Music Club Alumna), and his parents spending the day with us.  We’ve known this wonderful family since Michael was about ten.  It was the Norris family that first introduced us to homeschooling and Mrs. Michie. How grateful we are for them!

The performance drew to a close with a most beautiful performance by soloist Deacon Snider accompanied by the Lockhart High School Men’s Ensemble.  Upon hearing their sweet voices, my eyes were filled with tears.  After listening to them sing Loch Lomond, my children sang it for days.  The evening was beautifully sealed with the most amazing version of “Amazing Grace “ performed by Dr. Whitmore.

The biggest highlight of the night was seeing all of you fill Grace Lutheran Church to its capacity to support our family.  Moreover, it meant so much to us to see you give a standing ovation to our beloved piano teacher, Ms. Michie, who gave so graciously and tirelessly of herself to make this wonderful event happen.  We’re grateful for all the sacrifices you made to share this day with us, as a number of you drove quite a distance.  We could not have experienced a more joyful day witnessing Christ’s love for us through you.

Lastly, on Sunday, March 31st, a Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Latin Mass) will be offered for you. To thank you, I’ll bring a cake and cuttings from my antique white, thornless, rose bush pictured below.  I call it my Emmalyn because that’s the name of the beautiful young girl who blessed me with it years ago.  I pray it brings you as much joy as you have brought our family.

Much love and prayers,
The Escalonas
Martin, Rose, Maile, Noah, Joshua and Christian
