HI all, today I downloaded the package from github, unpacked everything, put it on my NI roboRIO but for me it is impossible to open a topic and write messages to it because I am permanentely asked for a Msters IP. Can anyone provide me with an example program which opens a topic and writes messages on it and that You can subscribe to this topic at a master PC with ROS running on it. My programm looks like that, where is the error?

Hello,

If you're being continuously asked for the master IP, it's because the roboRIO can't connect to the master. How are you connecting to your roboRIO? We recommend connecting your RIO to a network via the ethernet port and communicating with the Master over the network instead of using the USB ethernet.

Hi,
thanks for Your quick reply, yes indeed I am connecting to the master via the ethernet cable but it is just not connecting. How do You usually set up a master?
I did it with just starting a roscore and then ifconfig and looking for the computers IP adress or how do You handle that?

Thanks

Hey,

What you're describing is how I would start a master and find the IP address when I do that in Ubuntu.

Is your master on a virtual machine? When I run roscore on my linux virtual machine, I sometimes have trouble connecting (I think this is a firewall issue with my university wifi because I'm able to do it on my home network). If you are on a virtual machine, you might need to change your wifi settings as well so that your virtual machine gets its own IP address instead of sharing with your computer.

If you aren't using a virtual machine, are you able to ping the roboRIO from your terminal on your linux computer? I don't have a linux computer with me to try to reproduce this today, but I can look at it tomorrow morning.

We have some examples in the Examples/ROSRIO/roboRIO that you can try. Those have been tested and do work.

okay thank You a lot. To specify my problem a little further, i want to connect my roboRIO to a ROS environment which is running on an external PC with Ubuntu on it. It was impossible for me to connect to the master PC. Is anybody else having the same issues? I just cannot find the correct IP where to connect to,... it just does not work out, also the examples are not running unfortunately. Thank You again very much.
