I've been building both Fuerte (almost no prob up to mobile variant) and Groovy (collada missing sources) on the Panbaboard ES.
I'd really like to setup a PPA, and am teaching myself how that get's done as I've never done it.

How comes I see the Raspi all over this but the much more powerful Panda isn't even mentioned?
Anybody wishing to join me in this endeavour?

Regards
Claudio

Hello Claudio,

The Raspi has become quite ubiquitous, so we want deb packages to be available on it for a start, but the mid-term goal is to have packages available for a majority of arm-based systems, including Pandaboards.
How many different architectures should we target is still open to discussion.
So far, ubuntu armel, raspbian armhf are on the list of candidates. The latter should have forward compatibility, so packages built for this architecture should install and run flawlessly on ARMv7 and later boards.

Anyway, any help is appreciated, and Panda boards are definitely *not* left aside, but most of us only have two hands (and one head), which makes it difficult to span a large panel of applications at once.

Oh believe me I know pretty well: I can concot far more ways of spending time than of creating it.
Anyway I just wanted to point out where I stand and what I am doing, if there is anybody following along, just contact me so we can get things done faster.

Best regards
Claudio

The build farm I mentioned earlier is building for Ubuntu armel, but specifically I'm also interested in the Pandaboard, since that's what's on my robot.

I've mirrored my output repository onto one of Willow Garage's servers (they have a little more bandwidth than my home connection), so the first draft of my debs are available here: http://packages.ros.org/ahendrix-mirror/ubuntu/ and the build farm status page is here: http://namniart.com/build/

I would also like to see an easy to install ROS on the Pandaboard. What is your problem with collada? Maybe I can help, I successfully installed it on the RasPi

Missing dom and doe sources.
I manually copied  the files over from a fuerte install, that gets collada_parser going but urdf_parser then has lots of missing references almost all of which pertain to dae functions.
Check this Answers question for more details

Austin
thanks for the info.
I'll have to look a lot more into it as I've never setup a PPA before.

Claudio

Sorry if I missed that, but did you download and install collada-dom from source or did you start with copying from fuerte? I would recommend just installing it from source, it should not take too long (maybe 1-2 hours)
Download the latest from here
If that does not solve your problem, install assimp from source, that solved the last issues with urdf for me. You can get assimp from here
