i'm using a komplete audio 1 on windows 11, I tried the two available drivers on NI site but neither of them works good outside my daw. For example whenever i'm using any other software the output in my headphones is super low and distorted.
Generally, this type of product is designed to be used with a DAW (etc) to provide low latency performance via ASIO (in Windows). For normal everyday sound such as YouTube, Spotify etc you should be using your computer's onboard audio.
I am unclear as to what is exactly the problem ! The use of the ASIO drivers generally creates a problem where sound in other programs , like e.g. internet browser , do not work because they do not use the ASIO driver and they then do not work while the ASIO driver is in use. If the other programs that you describe is also using same ASIO driver then I am sorry but I do not know.
Sometimes though it is possible to route yourself out of some problems using the "VOICEMEETER BANANA Advanced Mixer" (it's free/Donationware) : -audio.com/Voicemeeter/banana.htm , however that may take some insight ! Anyway , prior to installing the VOICEMEETER BANANA Advanced Mixer then please make sure to make a manually made Windows restore point to reverse from !
While the Komplete Audio 1 drivers are technically compatible with Windows 11, your experience with low and distorted audio outside your DAW suggests driver issues rather than Windows itself. Try reinstalling both drivers, ensuring you disconnect the interface first and follow the official Native Instruments instructions.
If that fails, consider troubleshooting by checking your Windows audio settings, testing different headphones, and exploring community forums for potential solutions specific to your configuration. Remember, recent driver updates from NI haven't addressed your issue, so seeking alternative solutions might be necessary.
Not running into resource sharing issues (audio driver) between various programs (say YouTube sharing with your DAW) is nearly impossible. Certainly there are workarounds with things like "Voicemeeter", ASIOforall, VB-Audio, etc. which may or may not work as you want and/or may be finicky in the least. I have tried them all at one time or another.
But I finally cable patched my windows audio from my PC audio out to an input on my Audio Interface. It keeps windows audio 100% isolated from my interface ASIO driver, NOTHING shared resource wise. Problems are now a thing of the past.
Onboard sound cards: If your motherboard provides an onboard sound card, it should be configured to be the standard playback device in the Windows Sound Settings. This way, the Windows system sounds will be played back by the onboard device without affecting the audio signal of your audio interface or sound card.
Not a problem I've ever had - all the interfaces I've used (Steinberg, Apollo, Audient, NI, RME etc) have worked fine with Windows audio. As long as the Windows audio output rate matches the rate you set in the DAW it should all work fine
What audio interface ?
How are you selecting the WASAPI drivers ?
Do you normally use the ASIO generic driver ?
Did this work recently - what changed ?
Is the interface plugged in BEFORE you start cubase ?
Don't worry - it's quick and painless! Just click below, and once you're logged in we'll bring you right back here and post your question. We'll remember what you've already typed in so you won't have to do it again.
If you are using some form of ASIO driver, I estimate Spotify will not work, because ASIO lowers latency by bypassing the normal route windows provides for audio. In this "normal route" windows enforces DRM protection which is a requirement for spotify. If I'm mistaken please make me aware.
I understand that this is from 2013, but this is one of the two threads on spotify's forums that had popped up when I searched this on google. The other one is marked "Solved", so I'll put info here for anyone desperate like I was.
Next, go to your manufacturer's website for your audio interface, and download your newest drivers. If you're using Native Instruments, I'm using the 6 Mk2, and for some reason I needed to install both the 5.22 and 5.0 drivers before I got them to work. If you're plugged into the default positions like I am (1st input mic, 1st input headphones, switch near headphones set to line 1-2), make sure you have your default device set to Output 1/2. To do this, right click your audio icon on your task bar, click on sounds, and click on Output 1-2 and set to default if it isn't already.
Next, right click on your audio icon again and click sound settings, yes, these two sound settings windows are in different locations completely. Windows is very f*****g stupid. You're going to want to scroll down to the very bottom down by advanced sound options, and click on App volume and device preferences, and you would think that spotify would be smart enough to actually use your default devices here, but it's not. Spotify is just a small indie company worth 30.5 billion dollars, so you can't really expect them to fix simple issues within 7 years. So you're going to want to manually select the same device that you set as your default earlier. For me, again, on Native Instruments (with the newest drivers), this is Output 1/2.
I had the same issue, I tried all the standard suggestions, but because the issue was potentially a soundcard issue, what worked was going to Focusrite website and downloading the software for my device. A restart was prompted and Spotify worked perfectly afterwards. I had a new laptop which was why I had to re download the software.
For anyone having this exact issue where spotify says "if you have the file you can import it", for me what fixed it was on Windows go to Settings - System - Sound - on the right there is Sound control panel - on the "playback" list select your Audio Interface and click "properties" (or just double-click it) - Advanced - then on Default Format make sure it's on 2 channel and on Exclusive Mode select atleast the first box. For some reason my computer put it on on it's own 8 channel which is why it didn't recognize my monitors. After selecting 2 channel there isn't even an option for 8 channel anymore. 1 Channel enables only 1 monitor so if you have 2 monitors select 2 channel. Hope it helps.
i might be mistaken, but given the years of trouble (for other users not me) with asio4all, did the devs introduce a specific check/change for it? also, what audio device are you using, the onboard realtek?
with cbb now being a freebie, i think the devs should spend some time focussing on such users and making sure it's as (hate to say it) a mac/garageband, rather than the sometimes exotic feature requests from long term cw/sonar users - -ie, make sure it works well ootb with the global pc laptop audio chip realtek, marketing-wise isn't that a no-brainer?
i installed the latest driver, It shows "driver mode" as UWP. still getting clicks and pops. I also installed cubase , and have heard that Steinberg install a driver of its own. That's about the time i started having driver issues. ok found registry edit "drivers" get the message
"Drivers cannot be opened"
"an error is preventing this key from opening"
Yes, it bundles a generic low latency driver and, like all other generic ASIO drivers, is known to interfere with factory supplied ASIO drivers. Either uninstall it or remove its entry from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO
It can be confusing to some since they are both "MME." I believe it stems from Multi Media Extensions. Not sure if it dates back to Win 3.1, Win 95, Win 98, before or after. [See Historical Notes below. ]Not sure why MME for audio is still listed as an option for today's PC, except so the software works on older computers and laptops, maybe.
ok cleaned drivers from "software" menu. All that's left is Komplete Audio 6 driver. Opened Cakewalk............. OPENED "preferences." Audio driver is set "WASAPI Shared."
Midi driver is "UWP"......................................no sound.
Recently I installed OBS Studio to stream a live DJ broadcast using Mixcloud. After installing OBS I found that I couldn't get any levels on Cool Edit or OBS. I checked sound settings and there's no audio signal coming into Windows. I can see that the soundcard is receiving a signal.
A friend took a look at the issue and suggested that the MAXX Audio is now taking over audio (likely triggered by OBS install as everything was working fine before this), is not able to manage the NI soundcard (perhaps too old?) and therefore acting as if there is not signal.
You are asking an old PC to do a current PC's job. Whether its a Dell, HP, Acer or whatever it would be the same. Windows 10 is discontinuing support for a lot of older hardware with their feature updates and you are facing that too. I just had to upgrade (replace) my recording studio desktop as I need Thunderbolt for new recording interface hardware. The "old" recording studio desktop was "new" compared to your old Vostro.
2: buy a new PC (which definitely won't be a Dell since tbh this is rubbish...it seriously should not be this hard to disable onboard sound and use a preferred soundcard - since it's proven to work, just that Dell has chosen to take the Apple route of forcing hardware upgrades).
I've seen posts of users uninstalling Realtek and MaxxAudio (maybe uninstalling Realtek first is the key). Reboot the PC after uninstalling. Then reinstall Realtek (only 32 bit OS driver listed in Dell downloads).
Speaking of Dell vs other brands. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop that I use in my recording studio. If I wanted to upgrade/replace the hard drive all I have to do is open the back cover. I just finished a repair on a HP laptop that had a failed hard drive. In order to replace the hard drive all the screws on the back had to be removed, optical drive removed, battery removed, keyboard removed and top bezel removed to access the hard drive.
