XDA Developers was founded by developers, for developers. It is now a valuable resource for people who want to make the most of their mobile devices, from customizing the look and feel to adding new functionality.
Generally, my requirements for using a particular phone as my preferred daily driver have come down to eight pertinent functions: reliability in calling, texting, emailing, calendar, navigation, web browsing, music and camera functions. Android has not only checked the right boxes but also enhanced all of these tasks in my daily life with the addition of offering modded apps.
Modded apps are apps that have been modified and enhanced to do more than their basic functions. There are multiple fantastic modded apps that I have discovered on Android, but if I must only choose one app, I will have to say it is ReVanced Manager, which upgrades both the YouTube and YouTube Music apps.
ReVanced Manager gives the ability to experience all the functionality of the YouTube and YouTube Music apps but with major improvements to the user interface (UI). One of those improvements is to eliminate all advertisements just like the Ublock Origin add-on would do in any desktop web browser. A second enhancement is eliminating all in-video sponsors and annoying interaction reminders similar to how the SponsorBlock add-on works on any desktop web browser.
Furthermore, the buttons of the UI can be toggled on or off at will depending on whether you use those functions or not. Another beautiful part of the app is the ability to download video or audio from YouTube or YouTube Music as if you were on a desktop web browser, and being able to access and interact with those files freely.
A fifth benefit of using ReVanced is eliminating the distracting clickbait thumbnails from YouTube videos and instead replacing the thumbnails with actual frames of the video. Another nice touch is the return of the hidden dislike functionality on YouTube. Do you find YouTube Shorts distracting and wish to eliminate them? Done. ReVanced does this task also. It is truly customizable to deliver the exact content that any user desires.
Select the default/recommended ones. When you are in the select patches window, you can click the "default" or "recommended" button on the top. You can review the defaults, but don't exclude patches that you don't know what it means. It is probably needed. Don't worry about functions that you may not like, you can disable them in-app later.

On March 13, 2022, the developers of YouTube Vanced announced that the application would be shut down after they received a cease and desist letter from Google, which forced the developers to stop developing and distributing the app.[1][2][6][8][9][10] The app continued to function for remaining users until late April 2023, when the core playback feature of YouTube Vanced was rendered nonfunctional without any further updates.[11][12] After the discontinuation of YouTube Vanced, similar applications, such as ReVanced, emerged as replacements.[13]
in 2015, an xPosed module named "YouTube Background Playback" was developed by GitHub users pylerSM, esgie, and sigv.[20] In 2016, user th3an7 started maintaining the module, later becoming the most active maintainer.[21][22] On February 21, 2017, XDA user Master_T injected the functions of the xPosed module into the YouTube APK file itself, releasing it as iYTBP (short for injected YouTube Background Playback).[23] It could be installed without Magisk by using an official "iYTBP Vanced Universal Installer".[24] The project name was changed from iYTBP to Vanced on March 4, 2018.[25]
I take a different approach than the OISD. The OISD is a great list that you can add to, provides good protection, and usually doesn't need any further maintenance. If something causes functionality restrictions somewhere, it goes on the whitelist there as long as it doesn't cause ads to be displayed on multiple pages, for example.
Nevertheless, unblocking is done here with a sense of proportion. There are almost no false positive domains in OISD. This is the strength of OISD. A disadvantage, thereby e.g. the tracker number 1, google-analytics.com was partially unblocked because on the popular page reuters.com some videos do not start.
If you don't mind such things and you want a list that doesn't lead to restrictions in any situation, you will make the best choice with OISD. It is a very well maintained list and the maintainer always has an open ear.
Maintaining such large lists is hard work. One of the main problems is that domains you unblocked a long time ago because they cause functional restrictions on various pages, apps or devices, might be blocked again today because these restrictions no longer exist due to customization. You need to check your whitelist from time to time. That's very time-consuming.
My approach is different, one example, google-analytics.com for example I would only whitelist if it leads to functional restrictions in mass, but not if it leads to functional restrictions on a handful of pages - the tracker is just too popular for that. And I think it's pretty cheeky to link important site functionality to this top tracker. For this kind of trackers, you actually have to get permission beforehand according to the EU data protection directive, but the directive offers loopholes that are of course used, all a matter of interpretation.
Through the different list versions and the different degree of aggressiveness of these, I am able to decide what is whitelisted where depending on what restrictions the blocked domain leads to. So every user should have the possibility to find the right list for him. Example, the top tracker number 2 googletagmanager.com it leads to function restrictions on various pages therefore it is unblocked in Light to Pro, but because it is popular and partly used as a bypass for google-analytics.com, it is blocked in Pro++ and Ultimate. There are many examples of this.
The OISD is a list that must satisfy all user preferences. For more there is the OISD extra, which is unfortunately not available in NextDNS. But it can be combined with the very effective 1Hosts lists, if you don't mind to create your own whitelist.
