How to e-file your IT returns

Folks,

Here is an easy way to e-file your IT returns. Its very simple and absolutely free of cost.

Just follow the below steps.

Step 1: Register in https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/index.do
Step 2: Login to the website and then  download ITR1 form (it will be a zip file, which you have to unzip to extract the excel sheet)
Step 3: Open the Excel sheet and then enable Macro
Step 4: Fill the details like Name, PAN Card, Salary details, Bank A/C number, Bank MICR Code, Company TAN Number,etc.. (you need to fill only the necessary green color cells). You will get all these details be referring your Form-16.
Step 5: Click "Validate" button to validate the sheet
Step 6: Click "Generate" to generate the xml file.
Step 7: Login to the IT Dept. Website and then click the "submit return AY 12-13"
Step 8: You need to upload the xml file now
Step 9: You will see a pdf file (ITR-V form) which you have to download. This is an acknowledgement cum verification form
Step 10: Take a print out of the pdf and then sign it and mail it to “Income Tax Department – CPC, Post Bag No - 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bengaluru - 560100, Karnataka, ” BY ORDINARY POST OR SPEED POST ONLY   within 120 days of transmitting the data electronically.

PS: Don't send the ITR-V form by courier or registered post. They accept only normal post or speed post.
