Hello, All:

Do we want to explore activating a South San Francisco Bay chapter of Common Cause?

Oct. 13 would be an ideal time to either announce it if we (including Helen Grieco) felt it would likely go or discuss it if we thought it might.

Below please find the latest call to action I've received from "Robert Reich, Common Cause".  I don't know if they are growing in the current environment or I'm just becoming more connected with them.

Dear Spencer,

The government shutdown that began this morning put close to 1 million federal employees out of work and imperils our fragile economic recovery. So the most important thing our representatives can do is get back to work and pass a budget.

Sadly however, some members of Congress are paying more attention to the next campaign than to the people’s business; they’re hosting fundraising events and dialing for dollars from lobbyists and special interest groups.

Tell Congress: No fundraising during the shutdown. Sign Common Cause’s petition today.

The shutdown is indisputable evidence that Congress is broken, unable to fulfill one of its most fundamental responsibilities. Every member should be focused completely on ending this stalemate, not on politics or political fundraising.

Sign our petition. Let your representatives know that this is no time for business as usual in Washington.

Thanks for all you do,

Robert Reich
and the rest of the team at Common Cause

Georgia is our interface with Helen Grieco.   I look at this event (ALec  film evening) as a test for our group to show that we are an effective organization

How do others read it?

Fred

I know that Helen is working to create a South Bay common cause chapter.

I'm not sure how successful she has been.

If we were interested we could maybe become a South Bay chapter of Common Cause in the same way that we are a south bay chapter of Rootstrikers. Put on whatever hat is needed for whichever event we do.

The biggest advantages that then we would have a bank account.

Best,
Georgia
