Dear Spencer, The government shutdown that began this morning put close to 1 million federal employees out of work and imperils our fragile economic recovery. So the most important thing our representatives can do is get back to work and pass a budget. Sadly however, some members of Congress are paying more attention to the next campaign than to the people’s business; they’re hosting fundraising events and dialing for dollars from lobbyists and special interest groups. Tell Congress: No fundraising during the shutdown. Sign Common Cause’s petition today. The shutdown is indisputable evidence that Congress is broken, unable to fulfill one of its most fundamental responsibilities. Every member should be focused completely on ending this stalemate, not on politics or political fundraising. Sign our petition. Let your representatives know that this is no time for business as usual in Washington. Thanks for all you do, Robert Reich and the rest of the team at Common Cause |
