Hello, All:
What do you think about co-sponsoring a local screening of
Gar Alperovitz's new movie on "Next American Revolution"?
Distributors,
democracycollaborative.org, have offered it to local
Green party groups (see below). I asked about organized labor.
John Duda
<jd...@democracycollaborative.org>
replied, "I have not contacted anyone else in San Jose
yet----getting the labor council involved in a screening would be a
great idea!"
Alperovitz is a PhD economist with a substantive publication
record including promoting cooperatives as a partial response to the
"United States of ALEC". We can get free rights to screen this
film. We can almost certainly get an endorsement from the Santa
Clara Green party, but I don't know how much help we can get from
them in organizing such an event. I sent a copy of this notice to
Steve Preminger, but I haven't heard back from him. I'd like to see
us try to get the Central Labor Council or the South Bay Labor
Council to endorse a showing of this -- and preferably provide a
larger venue. I've read Alperovitz (2011) American beyond
Capitalism (2nd ed., Democracy Collaborative Press) and found it to
be a powerful statement supporting cooperatives.
What do you think?
Best Wishes,
Spencer
p.p.s. There will likely be some discussion of this next Thursday,
Oct. 24. Are we meeting next Wednesday, Oct. 23, 7:30 PM, Cafe
Campbell?

Hello, All:
I think this is an offer we cannot refuse.
1. What about December 5 or 6 (Thursday or Friday)? Let's
get some discussion on this list in the next couple of days. Get
tentative approval from the County Council and get a date in the Peace
Center calendar (http://sanjosepeace.org/calendar.php). I think October
or November would be too soon. If we don't do it in the first two weeks
of December, then it should probably be January.
2. What about contacting the Central Labor Council and
other similar organizations in this area?
Best Wishes,
Spencer
